Hi guys, im planning to host with gearhost.com. They seem to offer good bandwidth. Have any of you hosted with them? I want to know if they are reliable.

"GearHost, a new web hosting and Internet service company, is proud to announce its launch on 11/12.* For over two years GearHost has been planning this launch and now we're ready to take on the industry."

IMHO there is nothing wrong with a new company. From the looks of it, they have everything planned quite well.

The only thing which would make me a little bit skeptical is the amount of bandwidth they are including with their hosting plans. They're definitely gambling with that, and if they got it wrong (e.g. if more customers than expected take them up on their bandwidth offering), they aren't going to stay in business for very long.

Yes it's true, we are fairly new to the industry as a company but we have been in the game for a while, if that makes any sense. Avara, yes the bandwidth is extreme in some areas but owning two data centers and the pipe between them reduces our costs per mb to what seems like almost nothing, even though our total bill is enough to give some a heart attack ;).

What data centers does Gearhost own??? And what pipes?? I am curious about this one. It seems odd that a new company your size "owns" their own data centers and ther pipes.

I am really curious to learn more about this since you posted it. Can we come visit your data centers, if so, where are they? Thanks a lot.

Maybe those flew out a little too freely, what I meant to say is the space and pipe that we use we own not the whole data center at least not in Denver.

Our two data centers are located Colorado Springs (our offices) and in Denver (UUNet) where we are currently working on a 800 square foot contract sectioned all for GearHost. We currently are their largest customer for the DC next to Verio which is very close. The fiber we own is currently outsourced to ICG here in Denver to connect both of our NOCs together DC01 and DC02. Soon though most traffic (95% instead of the current 65% that runs out of Denver (our new offices are being built near the DC in Denver).

Does that help a little?

That clears it up a little better, may i ask which data center your in, im rather familiar with the denver market...

We try to keep that a little on the low down until our new contract is released. That will come out shortly in the tech mags/news when our uunet partnership press release comes out. Basically we're using MCI/UUNet for our provider (primary) with a dedicated OC3 (from Quest which is using about 2000 sq in that datacenter) so it's not hard to figure out ;). More of a whole news information type of thing if you will, you know what I mean?

Sounds like you have a dedicated line from your office to your colo. You call the office DC01 and the colo at UUnet DC02. :)

From your first post it sounded like you were adverting you own two data centers and own your own backbone. Not even Hostway or Pair have this fro example.

even though our total bill is enough to give some a heart attack

You guys must have funding somehow since you just opened in Nov.

Hope you don't mind my questions. Since you posted this stuff, I just wanted to see what it really means. Thanks.

Any particular company funding you? Not many hosts own all of this, including two offices within a few months of opening up.
