Hi,

My CPanel server seemed to die this morning. I got no emails from the overnight update, and pop3 servers are failing to respond.

However if i go to WHM, it gets there eventually, but takes upwards of 5 minutes to load the page!

CPU usage however is at 0%!

The server was rebooted for good measure but that made no difference. What should I check next? I suspect DNS issues, as i cannot ping my own domain from within ssh, if thats the case how can i confirm that? My provider provides my DNS servers, but his servers are running fine, so could it be a problem between my box and his DNS boxes?

Have you tried accessing your server via ip only?

Ah, good point, yes I have, and thats just as slow!

Dang, not a problem with DNS then! I was hoping it was the timeouts that were making it slow.

Still strange I can't ping my server name though - Says "unknown host"

So i'm at a loss as to what to check now!?

Further info, doing a netstat takes a while to execute, again as if it's timing out in some way, and i've also discovered that the primary name server is indeed down, but the secondary one is fine. Does anyone else know of anything else i can check?

Could there be a problem with my A entries?

hurrah the problem has been fixed, it turned out to be due to the primary name server being down, and for some reason it didnt seem to want to talk to the secondary one!
