View Full Version : AlwaysOnline.net or AffordableColo.com?
bteeter 01-11-2002, 12:12 PM Just did a search on AlwaysOnline.net and nothing came up so...
Have any of you worked with AlwaysOnline.net before for colocation or dedicated servers? Their colocation is an attractive option for price, close location, and bandwidth. But, I'd like to know as much as I can before considering a relationship with them. Any information is appreciated.
Also, the other provider we are considering for colocation is AffordableColo. Their pricing is very competitive, and I've heard nothing but good things about them. I'm a little leary about colocating our servers so far from us, but if that is the best option, then so be it.
Thanks - Brian

cbaker17 01-11-2002, 01:18 PM It works now but was completly down earlier...
GAMPort 01-11-2002, 01:28 PM I haven't been colocated with AffordableColo but I have been with their dedicated server company and both their network and support is good. Even if it far away for you I think it would be worth it.
Strider 01-11-2002, 04:47 PM I have some rack space at affordablecolo.com and they have treated me pretty good. I am happy with the service.
Dylan 01-11-2002, 08:47 PM Once you're there, you won't want to leave!
TradeViceroy 01-12-2002, 02:52 PM Well, I would say affordablecolo.com over the other provider. AffordableColo's reputation speaks for itself. Do a search on the forums, you'll see. :)
Incognito 01-12-2002, 03:17 PM I have not heard or read anything re: alwaysonline. However, affordablecolo.com has built an excellent reputation among its customers. You can find many references to them by searching these forums.
That said, Charles, you still shouldn't be the one to point out if your competitor is down. Leave that to someone else.
cbaker17 01-12-2002, 03:36 PM .
energy 01-12-2002, 04:05 PM affordablecolo.com is what I would pick (actually, I already did).
I wouldn't worry about colocating your servers far away (with affordablecolo) because they have engineers that know what they are doing and can help you if you have a problem.
surfsailor 03-10-2002, 08:40 PM Charles -
Isnt it funny how you would say such things about one of your competitors ?
How about making sure your ethernet cable is plugged in ?
Or better yet, check that yipes line you have coming into your basement closet!!!

JBIZ718 03-10-2002, 08:46 PM To me if alwaysonline was down earlier that would make me think there not alwaysonline

MattG 03-10-2002, 08:54 PM They are flexible, knowledgeable, and their connectivity seems very reliable and fast. We have a box there which will be our production server in the next few days.
We have a placeholder page at IP http://209.120.142.100 We are done testing and will be migrating our sites there in a few days.
Again the hardware is mine, but the connectivity is From Charles & the team.
I would recommend you contact them to discuss your options.
You can e-mail me directly with any questions.
surfsailor 03-10-2002, 09:30 PM ok - guess we are not getting the picture here!
no one except a direct competitor can verify that the site was down!
sound suspicious to anyone else ?

cbaker17 03-10-2002, 09:39 PM Srf are you aware how old this thread is? Why bother posting something like that in it now...
I want to make it clear that when i accessed it it was indeed down, it has nothing to do with them being a competitor. For instance other competitors of mine:
Venturesonline.com is up
rackmy.com is up
Both have always been up when ive gone to their sites and both are good companys. So Please dont make accusation about my credibility. Ive been in the biz for over 9 years, why would I lie about whether a competitor ive never even heard of is down.
MattG 03-10-2002, 09:45 PM what the #$*^@ ok - guess we are not getting the picture here!
Although others may not dignify your veiled accusation response... I will.
Your above post reflects a rush to judgement. Why not take some more time to know the facts before you shoot from the hip like that.

If we want to take a trip down memory lane, then let's at least discuss the thread topic. Maybe someone is still interested in these two, or the thread starter can update us on what happened since this was posted.
AlwaysOnline 03-14-2002, 09:50 PM Hi All,
I saw this thread today and decided that it was probably time to chime in. AlwaysOnline.net is a global managed data services company that provides service to over 10,000 clients in six different countries. While we do provide low cost colocation services, our product range begins at $25 shared hosting spans the full range of advanced services including global load-balancing, managed security services, and infrastructure design and implementation. Unlike some of our competitors who host in office complexes with T1s or DS3s, we have chosen to deploy our equipment in a true tier one environment (Redundant OC48s, N+
1 power, n+1 HVAC, 24-hour security staff....). This hosting spec, which is a necessity for our Fortune 500/1000 clients, ends up being a serious plus for clients of our lower cost services because they can have a true enterprise-class hosting environment for 100 bucks.
As to comment on the uptime/downtime issue @ 01-11-2002 11:38 AM we were 100% operational. The only time that our network has seen an outage over the past year has been for 1-2 hours of scheduled downtime for a core router upgrade. This occurred on 3/9/02 and our clients were notified 30 days in advance. As most people know on this board the Internet is not always as simple as it seems. Like all xSPs, we receive daily phone calls about client equipment being down. We investigate all such, occurrences, but all such reports can be traced back to the client's access provider. No company can claim to have a network that is accessible to 100% of the population 100% of the time, because we do not control the Internet. We at AlwaysOnline.net take our clients and infrastructure very seriously. We have a 100% network uptime guarantee and stand by it, regardless of whether someone is a $139 client of our RaqShaq.com service or a $10K-$20K advanced services client.
If anyone has any need for information, please feel free to contact me @ jsilva@alwaysonline.net
Best Regards,
Jason Silva

Original Poster here. :-)
In the ensuing period we decided to go with Rackshack servers and customize them to our needs. We get a minimal level of support - and excellent pricing. We don't really need support. So long as its network accessible and the hardware works, we can take care of just about anything.
Meets our needs - at least for now. Plus, its nice not to have to plan for capital expenses buying new servers and hardware to protect vs. failures.
Take care,
Brian
