Afternoon,

Just a quick question...its friday afternoon and my brains taken off already.

Looking for a new host and need to get the bandwidth limits right.

Currently my stats for the last 3 months are:

Overall Accesses
Accesses: 1,591,809
Bytes: 12,365,525,124
Visits: 116,789

I work this out at about 4Gb traffic a month. That seem correct?

Also has anyone had any trouble with dcforum and complaints from hosts about excessive server usage?

Thanks in advance.

Rich

Well.... I don't you about your brains.. but my brains' been on vacation ever since I finished uni 4 years ago...

I guess 12 GB / 3 = 4 GB a month...

what's dcforum?

I won't comment your brains, but I'd like to note that 12 gig over three months does not necessarily translate into 4 gig per month. It might, but it could just as well be that you had eight gigs worth of traffic the last month (or even the last week).

I think that main problem with your site is extensive CPU usage, not bandwidth, that is why your host wants to get rid of you :D
Am I right? ;)

If only I could ban all non-SQL based forums!

In which case you've got yourself a DOS attack heheheh

Most sites really got a steady amount of traffic.. but yeah it could explode too if your site is too nice ;)

See I told you my brains have been on vacation!!

Thanks for the replies....

The traffic has been fairly steady over the three months...(slowly rising but not by much). We get the odd peak day depending on whats happening but apart from that its the usual regulars who visit. :)

DCforum is a cgi forum script, from reading many posts on this forum I'm guessing that some hosts don't like flat file forums!. I'm not sure how much of a resource hogger it is. I've had no problems at all with my current host (globalnetpromotions), the only reason I'm moving is due to hitting the 75meg limit on the site. :cartman:

I've narrowed my search down from 25 to about 7 hosts so far.....

muppie....you can remember that you left uni 4 years ago?..heheh..ur doing better than me, I think I left then but that time of my life is a nice hazy hole! :D :D

Thanks again for the replies,
Rich
