Site5.com is reliable, clean and professional but for me too expensive.

I'm hosted with site5 at the moment and the reason that I am looking at this forum is because I am considering moving to another host.

I started hosting with site5 a few months ago. They looked like a good host that supplied everything that I needed but I have not been too impressed sofar. What they offer seems good for the price but their support service is currently very poor. When I first joined them they had a support forum which was excellent. They then deleted this board and brought in a ticket system. This system was closed a week later and they said that they were returning to email support. I have emailed them twice now in the last fortnight and still not received a reply. Lucky it is not urgeant I guess.

I think the reason that they closed down the support forum was partly because the users were slating them for the problems that were occuring.

Their main problems seem to occur from having too many people crammed onto a server using the resources. If you look at the status page for my server http://calypso.site5.com/ then you will often see load averages well above 20 (which I am led to believe is very high).

I like what site5 has to offer but at the moment they are just not providing it. I am trying to ftp into my site now but I can't because the server isn't allowing me to. This problem has been occuring for over a week now and still my server has ftp probs.

If Site5 could sort out the 'overcrowding' problems then they would be great but at the moment I wouldn't recommend them.

Maybe I am just on an unlucky server???

20 is a bit on the high side, yeah. However, I thought I'd just mention that it doesn't necessarily mean the server is overcrowded. A server with only *one* heavy resource using site could be at 20+. While the server *may* indeed be overcrowded (I can't say that it isn't, nor that it is), you can't make an automatic judgement of this just by looking at the CPU load.

That is indeed correct, most wise and honorable Chicken. Unfortunately this server has, indeed, been somewhat "overloaded" recently (for lack of a better term). That's not saying that we stuck too many accounts on the server (in fact, it has fewer accounts on it than servers with a quarter of the processing power and less than half the RAM). The problem is that there are several users on this system who are giving it quite a run for its money--which ends up causing issues for everyone on the server.

We have been aware of this, and are bringing two new shared servers online this weekend to help alleviate some of the stress on this particular server. An arbitrary selection of accounts from the "calypso" server will be moved to the new server(s) on Saturday night (less than 24 hours from now).

To the customers who experienced this issue: we sincerely apologize, and thank you for bearing with us. Please feel free to email me directly at mlightner@site5.com if you have any questions on the matter (and also check our forums for an announcement regarding this issue as well as NetAdmin 2).

Best Regards,

I'm currently hosting with Site5, and have been for 8 months or so - they are without question the best shared hosting experience I've had, after 4 previous hosts over a span of 2 years or so.

And their control panel is...

Thanks for clarifying that Matt.

I wasn't saying that Site5 is a bad host but it seems to be going through a rough patch at the moment. I am definately going to stay with them for now. If they do sort out these few little bugging problems then they will be a great host that I would definately recommend them.

Sorry Matt if you think that I am slagging off your service but I am not. I really like the service that you provide. It is one of the best out there.

A community forum would be nice though even if it isn't an official support method :)

I've also been with site5 for a while now, and I have to say that their support, service, everything (and especialy NetAdmin -- when I was on shared) is great.

And the new site design is very sexy ;)
