Echo Inc. now charges $19.95 per month instead of $10.00 per month as of January 10, 2002. Did any current merchant account holders get a monthly fee increase?

Also, if you consider using Echo, you should know they only allow monthly transactions.

I haven't heard anything about this, and I'm an ECHO merchant.

That's why we stopped using them. They are cheap, but when you consider the per transaction fees for monthly payments...it makes more sense (for most small hosting companies) to pay a bit more for a service that will allow quarterly or annual customer payments.

We're using EMS now - never been happier. You don't even need Authorize.net for recurring billing, etc. :)

Seriously, this is the third merchant account we've had and I'm really happy with them.

The EMS gateway fee is expensive at $40.00 per month. The total minimum monthly costs are $75.00. I would choose them if they charged a $15-$20 monthly gateway fee.

The EMS Interface does have very nice features though and the startup cost of $95.00 is very reasonable. If you are processing more than $5000.00 per month EMS might be a good choice.

Yeah, but when you consider that you don't have to pay Authorize.net or anything else on top of EMS's fees - it's not that bad. Personally, I like paying a little bit more for all the things it can do.

They also do not require that you charge your customers monthly...which most other merchant account companies do. We have five figure sales each month...ECHO was charging us for each and every monthly transaction - we were paying ALOT.

Anyway, for us, EMS makes sense. :)

Sorry for dragging this thread up again but I came here for this specific topic and don't see anything else!

I'm assuming that since we existing merchants didn't hear one peep about this fee increase that we aren't getting one? I heard a rumor about it but scoured my monthly invoice and didn't see anything.

Frankly, I'd still stay with them with the increase but it would mean a lot to have the old fee.

I believe it's only $19.95 if you use MerchantAmerica. If you don't, you can get that waived. I could be wrong though.

We pay a $10 statement fee. That fee is waived if you don't process any cards that month.

No gateway fee, setup fee, etc., but we pay a discount rate.

We got in at a pretty good deal. :D

Yeah, unless ECHO is requiring that you bill your customers month to month. They were making us do it that way - and if you break a $45 per year hosting account down into monthly charges...ECHOs per transaction fee was eating up most of our profits. Also, we never could figure out how to do recurring billing with them - so I ended up paying one of our techs to do the data entry each month. *argh*

We now pay more with another company, but we are able to charge annually and save quite a bit.

EMS looks similar to what http://goemerchant.com offers.

$49.95/mo., no setup fee, $15 statement fee, $.30/transaction, 2.29%

I have a question for current users of Authorize.net, how do you handle recurring monthly charges when using the Authorize.net Virtual Terminal?

Ech is pretty much a server ONLY merchant... they dont allow 1 time fees unless its for domain registrations so unless you do hosting or porn, dont bother with them.

Of coruse if you do either of those things (or anything else recurring), they're great & cheap.

Hi Tina, could you elaborate please...
which of these plans did you get?
EMS VPOS – Full-featured Virtual Terminal that runs in a web browser
EMS e-Payment HTML – Wraps around a merchant’s existing website
EMS e-Payment API – Flexible & robust API for direct integration with shopping cart applications

With regard to recurring billing...do you still have to have your own sign up script that customers use on your site and how do manage customers accounts? I am trying to sort all this out and trying to figure out if i still need an app like Modernbill to keep track of things or does the EMS app do all that for you?

Do you bill customers on anniversary or 1st of the month?

I was going to go with Echo till I saw this thread and now I am all confused again! :stickout

Go a head you tell me just to call EMS if you want. ;)

I think it is a bad idea to post direct links to sites from this forum

maybe we should put links as say hxxp://www.link.com

now that there have been a flood of hits from this forum the price has increased for EMS

Merchant Account Fees:
Base rate: Visa and MasterCard 2.50%
Transaction: $0.30
One time registration fee: $129
Real time processing: $49.90/month
(NO LEASE)

We use ECHO and I haven't heard about any price increase, except on here, of course.

Have you all taken a look at the merchant accounts that Quickbooks offers? Full merchant accounts, ZERO setup fees, very competitive rates, gateways, everything.

I signed up with them! :D
