View Full Version : eFaxing providers?
WildWayz 01-09-2002, 06:35 AM Hi ya
I do not own a fax machine but came across efax.com where you can send/receive faxes via email for $10 a month.
It is open for US and UK people (ie 0845 for UK peeps), so I signed up.
Account was made, but I could not send/receive faxes. I was then told via email that I would be contacted about confirming my credit card details to prevent fraud. Fair enough - but for $10 a month, is it worth doing that?
2 days later I get an email with the CC Authorisation form and them wanting me to sign it, fax it back to them along with a recent credit card statement.
I am kinda pissed off, becuase my credit card statement is my business and I don't want to send them it - especially for $10 a month! Can I blank out certain details on it?
Does anyone else know of any eFax-like providers out there that can offer UK-based fax numbers?

greggish 01-09-2002, 07:10 AM Don't know if you already know this, but, J2.com (http://www.j2.com) is one of the bigest...just as big, if not bigger than efax. They have telephone #'s worldwide as well.
WildWayz 01-09-2002, 07:48 AM Hi ya
j2.com and efax.com appear to be the same :/

greggish 01-09-2002, 08:04 AM Wow, you're right about that. http://www.efax.com/products/corporate/index.html . Last time I used either one was 2 years ago. Sorry, don't know of any others offhand...looks like you'll have to hit Google.
WildWayz 01-09-2002, 08:08 AM Thanks anyway for the help :)
Shame really - was hoping they wouldn't need a CC Statement :/
As I said, I have no problems signing forms but get nervous when people ask for that kinda info cos it contains account numbers, address etc - basically all that is needed to access my CC account :/

method5 01-09-2002, 10:23 AM efax.com works good. I think they added on a new feature that allows you to pick area code.

Before doing anything have a look at MaxEmail.com
They have the same service with lower price and very easier web interface for sending faxes.
You can easily upload your MS office documents from a web page and it faxes it with a very low price.

WildWayz 01-10-2002, 02:29 PM Hi ya
MaxEmail.com looks like it is US based only. I am in the UK.
Also, I went with efax.com in the end - sent them the CC Statement but blanked out info I thought isn't appropriate for them to see :)

TradeViceroy 01-10-2002, 09:41 PM You might want to check out ureach.com. I'm unsure if it is for U.S. citizens only, but their service is very good!
buy a fax machine! $10 per month for a whole year is $120 you could easily afford a new one or a top of the range second hand one.
ebird 01-11-2002, 01:05 AM Just curious, if you use the e-fax services like j2 and efax, what about the signatures?
I think the documents need signatures to be valid, right? What about the already-printed documents. You can't fax that.
I think fax machine is a better choice.
ScottD 01-11-2002, 01:20 AM I think the documents need signatures to be valid, right? What about the already-printed documents. You can't fax that.Buy a scanner. You can scan your signature once and use it repeatedly. I use an automated fax solution that integrates with MS Exchange Server and that's how I sign documents (almost like a rubber stamp). If I ever need to fax hard copies, I just scan em and go.
On costs, think about it. Efax is ~10/month, where a fax machine is $150 or so plus the cost of a dedicated line (assuming you want to receive faxes). There are devices out there that let you share a voice line with a fax line though, so that may also be an option.

Rehan 01-11-2002, 11:04 AM These services are also useful for anyone outside the U.S. that wants a fax/voice mail presence in the country. It's also useful if you want a dedicated incoming fax number but don't want to pay for the full cost of a business phone line from your local phone company. And it's convenient because all incoming faxes and voice mails are e-mailed to you...very easy to "retrieve".
For outgoing faxes, just use your own computer and phone line...it'll probably be cheaper. I think the biggest advantage of these services is the dedicated incoming number.
I have an account with j2.com (and part of the number spells VOMIT! :D ) but I haven't used it very much yet... They bumped up their prices recently, which was a bummer. :(
