View Full Version : Advise on Hosting for Windows NT/2000
Beannie 01-08-2002, 11:23 PM Hi All,
So far I have been following the discussions in the forum and find it useful and enjoyable. There have been too many hostings providers out there such that for a beginner like me, it is like a jungle. Yet, it is so important to board the correct train.
Anyway, I have been looking for reseller program with the following criteria:
1. Windows NT/2000
2. IIS 4/5 support ASP
3. MS SQL and/or MySQL
4. Control Panel
5. Web stats
6. Reliability/download speed
7. SSL, and folder protection
8. Reliable mail service
9. Support/response
So far, based on the research from the forum, I have come down to the following 3 candidates:
1. http://www.experthost.com/resellers/
2. http://www.handyhosting.com/reseller_compare.cfm
3. http://sectorlink.com/conventional/packages.asp
I would really appreciate any feedback on the above 3 provider and give a rank in order of 1=the best and 3 the worst.
Thank you very much and I look forward to any response.
Best regards,
Beannie
<<MOD NOTE: Fixed the above for you>>
Beannie 01-08-2002, 11:42 PM Hi,
I am sorry, the first candidate should have been:
http://www.experthost.com/resellers/
So the three candidates are:
1. http://www.experthost.com/resellers/
2. http://www.handyhosting.com/reseller_compare.cfm
3. http://sectorlink.com/conventional/packages.asp
Again, any feedback/experience shared is greatly appreciated.
Really need your help.
Regards,
Beannie
Vasya 01-09-2002, 08:48 PM Checkout Sitebysize.com. I've just started to use their services, and they seem to be very helpfull.
I can thoroughly recommend Sectorlink - the CP has been delayed a number of times which is a bit of a pain, but the servers themselves are excellent.

geografx 01-10-2002, 05:50 PM I am currently looking for an alternative hosting solution for http://www.experthost.com/resellers/. Their hosting service is acceptable, however their billing and support leave quite a bit to be desired.

Barbara
Beannie 01-11-2002, 01:43 AM I am actually about to decide to take on Experthost.com, before reading the posting from Barbara. Could you please be more specific about your past experiences. This is very interesting since, there are a lot of inquiries from people who want to start with them, but not many sharing from the people who have hosted with them.
By the way, how long did you host with them?
Thank you very much for the sharing.
Regards,
Beannie

I sent you a response on my hosting exprience with ExpertHost (formerlly i-Wiz.com) via PrivateMessage - its rather long and didn't want to clutter the thread. Let me know if you haven't received it.

Barbara

Oh oh. So ExpertHost is I-Wiz... Well it was many years ago, but my hosting experience with I-Wiz was not good. Well I guess I thought it was ok at the time, I felt like 'well, they are cheap so I guess you should expect some downtime' , and I used them for some small not so important sites ) .
But as I said, it was at more than 3 and a half years ago and most things have probably changed ( the overall standard on Win2000 hosts, my own expectations, and probably also I-Wiz/ExpertHost ).
geografx 01-11-2002, 10:40 AM but my hosting experience with I-Wiz was not good.
Why would you expect your current experience to be any different, just because a company changed its name, redoes it's website/url and added some hardware?
Another question to ask would be why did they have to do that?

Barbara
ASPCode.net 01-11-2002, 11:48 AM The name change has nothing to do with it.
I mean that the hosting industry in general has become better - especially Windows hosting was a pretty small world 3 and a half year ago. Now there are lots of companies which puts more pressure on a company - customers has other options so to speak.
Reason number two: Windows itself has been made more stable/secure which makes it possible to have better uptime/performance.
I am not recommending Experthost, just saying that 3 and a half year they were not good.
Another reseller package that meets your criteria above is http://www.poundhost.com/windsor
1GB of reseller space for Ģ85 pound/year (about $100?)

Matt.
Beannie 01-12-2002, 12:10 AM Sectorlink looks good to me. Any more specifics on support response time, billing, as well as server performance such as downtime and download speed are greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much,
Beannie
chilediez 01-21-2002, 03:17 PM Beannie,
Did you find anything else about sectorlink?
What about control panel and support?
Beannie 01-21-2002, 07:28 PM Hi All,
After reviewing all the feedback, I decide to give Sectorlink a try. I sign up for the reseller program. So far, the service has been very good.
The response time is very quick. Uptime and download time of server is also very good. I know that a lot of people saying that wait a while and see whether they are really good. I hope that my judgement continues to be correct for the next little while.
So, if you are still on the search for hosting, I would recommend Sectorlink.
Good luck,
Beannie
