Should PC users be made aware of the damage that computers are causing to the enviroment?

I.E. the materials they make PC's from wont degrade over time in a land fill site. The fumes that are emitted into the atmosphere when the machines are in production etc....

Sounds like someone's been inhaling a tad too much of those "PC fumes"...

Sure - but would it do any good?

A better solution is making environmental legislation that better controls the manufacturing and disposal of computers and their components.

Well yes, I think it's good for everyone to be aware of the bigger picture in whatever they do. Should point out that TVs, mobile phones and just about any other electrical item involve the same environmental concerns as computers.

I don't know that I'd agree that would be a "better" solution. Both elements would have to be part of "the" solution. Such legislation wouldn't pass without public support, and public support wouldn't exist without education.

So of course PC users, and users of similar equipment, should be made aware of the negative effects. They should be made aware in a factual, reasoned way; and a balanced approach to solving the problem should be taken in any legislation. Alternative methods of manufacturing, methods that will minimize environmental damage, should be found.

And we should all have ice cream for dessert every day, and money should grow on trees, and the cats and the dogs should all be the best of friends.
