Not that I am saying he cant afford to pay his bills just that he will not pay them. As for hosting with them please for your sanity do not do it.... OTG_Magus 01-12-2002, 09:31 PM Doesn't seem even one person has a legit reason to hate Donhost. A lot of hosts use unlimited, and it means you have unlimited, BUT you have to pay for it! Donhost never said you wouldn't pay for extra, just that you could have extra. I bet 90% who complain never tried them. spade 01-13-2002, 02:27 AM Do I get paid to say something nice about DonHost here? :o   ToastyX 01-13-2002, 02:54 AM I have a legit reason to hate Donhost. They like to delete sites without warning and without a legitimate reason. acidHL 01-13-2002, 09:02 AM They like to delete stuff after they promise not to, on more than one occasion. They refuse to refund when they charge you after you have cancelled your account. The list goes on, do a search. Edit: Yes i was aDonhost client. 311 01-13-2002, 09:11 AM Originally posted by OTG_Magus Doesn't seem even one person has a legit reason to hate Donhost. Saxon 01-13-2002, 09:14 AM I'm currently looking for a reseller package and thought I would phone Donhost to ask them a few questions. It took them at least 3 minutes to answer their sales line (not a good start). One of my sites is a community site with a busy messageboard. A good way to ensure visitors keep returning, is to offer a newsletter. Most of the successful sites on the net run some form of mailing list. Donhost's terms & conditions do not allow any form of mailing list. just1post 01-13-2002, 02:33 PM They aren't geared for large sites / sites which consume load's a CPU. Otherwise hosting with them is not a problem :D They say that they are against spam (even mailing lists) etc but it's really to keep CPU down! In my opinion, you *could* make small profits selling cheap hosting packages, but you will never be able to cope/handle big sites. I bet 90% who complain never tried them. "Hate"s a little strong but I believe if you find my post where I detailed the problems I had while I was with them, then you'll understand that I had more than one legitimate reason. Donhost offer a feature rich package for little cost so it's not a case of "paying for more". It looks great but in my experience at the time customer service and communication were very real issues. There's also a big question mark as to the server resources a site uses. If you've got a highly interactive (read: lots of scripts, ASP, etc...) then you're going to fall foul of the AUP rapidly. As for the "unlimited" rubbish... If you are told that you get "unlimited" that means you are entitled to "unlimited" (we're talking diskspace here). There's no "Paying extra for it"... Either it is or it isn't so I'd question your logic on that aspect of you post. But hey, if you want to try them by all means take them up on the 30 day free trial. Just be sure to try out everything and see what works and what doesn't. OkGoNow 01-13-2002, 07:21 PM My advice would be to visit http://www.mchost.com. They have an outstanding reputation, combining great professionalism, and at the same time remaining personal. Check them out too if you get the chance. I think many people around here will vouch the same. Or do a search on McHost and DonHost. Thanks OkGoNow AL-Benjamin 01-14-2002, 01:06 PM My advice would be to visit http://www.mchost.com. Would you like it if there was a board with loads of people slagging your company, say what u mean if uve had probs then say it but i think all the slagging on here is a bit extreme, I know lots of people with donhost accounts who have had no problems............AND NO donhost are not paying me to stick up for them. AL-Benjamin 01-14-2002, 05:36 PM I don't think you can get sued for expressing an opinion. In any case it would have to be prooven. I think there are more than enough people that would stand up and say that the Donhost staff attitudes need to be improved. Anyway, i don't have time for a company that asks me to send them my cc details through an email. benoire 01-15-2002, 01:36 PM WHT is all about discussing webhosts, and expressing opinions etc. Whilst it may appear to some people that some of what is said is untrue, DonHosts have just as much right to post here and defend themselves. Whilst I haven't been a client of DonHosts myself, I did have an account with one of their resellers who is a friend of mine for a short while. I experienced quite a bit of downtime, with FTP regularly packing in for a while too. At one point, the site was down at 2am every day for some time. My friend has also had several problems with them, including one site being closed down for overloading the CPU - he has since moved his hosting elsewhere and has been told the site will not prove a problem on their servers. I also think DonHost's extra bandwidth prices are a bit excessive - £15/GB. I know it is more expensive here in the UK, but £15 is going a bit too far. Thats ex VAT too. The only good thing to say about DonHosts is that they haven't been too bad replying to emails I have sent them. But if you don't have the service, even the best customer support in the business is irrelevant. |
