Haze 08-24-2004, 08:13 PM You probably won't notice a difference in the way they stop virii. Exiscan and mailscanner are essentially frontends for whatever antivirus engine you use, i.e. ClamAV, F-Prot, etc. However what you would want to take into account is the overhead of each. If your running exim, chances are you already have exiscan built in ( as it now comes with exim ) and mailscanner you would need to install. Mailscanner wasn't designed to just scan emails for virus. It was also developed to *plug into* other programs such as SpamAssassin. If you want to use the extra's that Mailscanner provides and you have the resources available to do so, then by all means go for it. However if you want a less *bloated* solution and just simply want to scan email for virii, exiscan is your best bet. I've used both and heavily modified mailscanner can do its job quite well, however, if not properly configured it can have a severe impact on the resources it uses. My personal preference: Exiscan & ClamAV |
