As an Alabanza customer have you ever needed a back up of a customers domain and Alabanza was unable to provide it for you?

I am not talking about the back up on your hard drive when you delete a domain. I am talking about a back up on a working domain that the customer trashed and needed your back up as they did not back their own site up.

I have a bad feeling that they say they back up your domains but it is just not getting done.

Alabanza tells me that "Backups overwrite each other. There are not days and days of backups for a single domain. It would be near impossible to keep up with an infrastructure that kept backups for over 250,000 websites for each day of the year."

I keep two rev.s of back ups for my personal PC at home.

Again the two times I needed a back up of a "working domain" Alabanza was not able to come up with it!

Yes, we have, and there have been times when Alabanza was unable to provide them. In one remarkable span Q3 last year, three of five backups we requested were not available. My understanding, basedon what they claim to back up, is that there are daily incrementals and monthly rotations. At the time we had that run of backup requests, it appeared to us that some things had not been backed up for quite some time. We did have an entire server restored at the end of last year due to a drive going bad, but there were issues during the restore, including one entire site missing although it had been on that server since it was set up. We always recommend that people keep their own backups of their sites - even though it doesn't happen nearly as often as it seems to with Alabanza, there are times when a backup simply cannot be restored for some reason.

I'd be hard-pressed to recall a time they did provide a requested backup! I guess more accurately I'd say 30% of the time they have them. Don't expect much less rely on them.

As I see it Alabanza has a BIG Back Up Problem. We are moving off Alabanza as fast as we can!

This is a bit alarming, but not surprising. In fact, backups remain an issue with many hosts. Sometimes they aren't made, sometimes they aren't usable. I warn all customers of any web host to always keep a backup of your own site. That is the only way you can be sure. And it is so little effort to maintain a backup of one or a few sites. Better safe than sorry.

we have experienced the same backup problem with Alabanza. Apparently they do not "officially" offer backups as it is not in our Contract, nor does their backup service appear on their web site anymore.

Alabanza has said that they will officially offer backups in the near futures, but there will be a charge for it.

By the way, the fact that Alabanza did not have a backup for one of our clients costs us that client.

I wish we new in advance that everything we thought we where getting we are not, and to make sure your CONTRACT specifies all details.
