I have a number of sites listed with Burlee and am fairly happy with them. They aren't perfect but better than most. I am working on an info site which is not for profit and I need cheaper hosting.

Can anyone suggest a reputable host with its own data center? I do not want to go through a reseller as if the site comes down I would have to contact the reseller and then they would have to contact the data center.

I prefer to work with established companies that have been around a while. All I need are a few mailboxes, not a lot of disk space and CGI-bin. The plan could have low transfer as long as it were burstable. I pefer ASP but could live without it.

How has Terra-byte been lately. Once I called them in the middle of the night and a tech guy actually answered? I like to be able to get good response in the middle of the night.

Thanks!

They might not necessarily be better but there are quite a few hosts with their own datacenters that have been around a while. Check out pair.com, they are supposed to be real good. VO is moving to their own because verio is closing down where they are or something like that, but their company is not real old relative to some of the big boys, pair for example.

Pair must be a solid host however, they have many many times the customers of both us and VO combined, and still manage to keep most of them happy it seems. I dont think i've ever seen them get trashed anywhere.

Creid,

I would check out venturesonline.com

They (ventures online) don't have their own data center. That was the question, not a host with better value.

Ya, I know they just got thier building. I have an account with them. I am not sure if they have moved anything there. Their servers (are?) were at verio in Denver.

Was I wrong? Was I? From that link:
We will be spending the next several weeks getting the new center ready to go. We anticipate moving the file servers between January 15th and 21st and we will be communicating when those move plans are finalized in early January.

They definatly didnt just build that, what did it used to be? Is the rest of the building someone elses datacenter or no?

Nope we did not build it a large teir 1 provider did I cant say the name because we are not allowed :( but it is one of the big BELL boys and they out grew it.

We do own all the equipment and are having our own fiber run in to the building as well as using some of the massive fiber lines that are allready in place.

There is other data center space in the building that we have fist right of refusal on and we will be taking it as it becomes avalible over the next year, none is public colo it is all private space.

The pictures you see on our website is of the first area we are taking over its alittle over 10000 sq total.

Hi Paul,

I wish the VO migration to the new data center is successful and painless, because I also have a reseller account there :)

Please keep us posted.
