View Full Version : Poor service
mikeyt_333 11-11-2000, 02:36 PM my company has moved from host to host, and we have yet to find a host company that seems to even care if we do business with them or not. I placed an order with my current host to have, PHP3.0.7 upgraded to PHP4.0.x, this order was placed on September 13th, and it still isn't completed! I don't understand how, in a business where there really isn't a monopoly, companies can afford to act so stupid, and look so stupid, because they can't do a little software upgrade!
Any responses, I'm interested to see what others think.
kunal 11-11-2000, 02:57 PM Some companies rather wait and let all the bugs cleaned out before upgrading. Some may take more time then the others. But eventually they get around doing it.
Alabanza based hosts, for example, took very long to install php4 simply because Alabanza did not install it. But now, all the new servers coming up from Alabanza, have php4 installed from the begining.
mikeyt_333 11-11-2000, 03:16 PM I understand that they may have wanted to wait for bugs to be fixed, or whatever, but I have personally requested this upgrade, and it was a matter of my site being able to work or not. Some of the things I want to do require PHP4, and I can't wait for 2 months or more, time is money, and I don't have much of either. My server is a dedicated server, and they provide the option for upgrading to PHP4.0, otherwise I wouldn'at have requested. They also promised me more than five times that it would be completed by a certain time and it hasn't been completed yet. How do they get away with this?
kunal 11-11-2000, 03:33 PM I thought you were talking about a virtual account. sorry.
Who have you got the server with?
mikeyt_333 11-11-2000, 03:42 PM *****

kunal 11-11-2000, 05:06 PM lol... yeah.. a 100%.. now its crystal clear to me.. hehe :D
mikeyt_333 11-11-2000, 05:11 PM So how do I find a company that isn't going to screw me? I also had problems with Webhosting.com.
-Edward- 11-11-2000, 05:15 PM go dedicated with tera-byte.com youll be in good hands there.
KDAWebServices 11-11-2000, 05:22 PM Or got dedicated with UltraSpeed as they seem like a pretty reasonable company from what everyone else is saying about them.
MattF 11-11-2000, 07:06 PM Wow, ***** and WebHosting.Com what a combination.

Mikey,
I'm afraid you've had the worst luck by picking two of the largest and worst hosting companies in the business - check out suggestions by the others and see how you go.

Like a left and then a quick right jab. Mikey, gotta give you credit, you've hung in there. Good news is, that round three won't be as bad as the first two. You've worn them down and now you are ready to do battle!
Matt, Technics, and KDA's suggestions pretty much cover all that I would start with.
etLux 11-12-2000, 07:42 PM Talk about an unfortunate propensity to step in front of moving trains... lol.
iabloko1 11-13-2000, 07:17 PM If your hosts sucks, dump it, use another one. Why worry about this stupid <<MOD EDIT>>. Check this one out:

Watch your language please sir...
etLux 11-13-2000, 07:20 PM Gosh... I didn't mean to say "propensity" -- it just slipped out.
Sorry!
Hehheehehheehe
Would you mind getting your infamous 'shaming' tools out please etLux? We have someone who'd like to be shamed for our own pleasure...
Chicken 11-13-2000, 07:39 PM Oops... didn't get to page 2. I see things have been addressed already.
etLux 11-13-2000, 07:39 PM I had no idea I had become infamous... what a delectation of thought to be so considered! Thank you.
Whom do you wish me to castigate?

Now there you go again! You've been warned ONCE already! :)
etLux 11-13-2000, 07:51 PM Ack!
My apologies once again.
I fear to say more, in that I may but exacerbate this situation.
Yours in abjection,
Marty 11-13-2000, 08:22 PM etlux,
Would you please put a link to Websters dictionary in your sig for the rest of us uneducated people.
natew 11-13-2000, 08:36 PM Some webhosts enable both versions of PHP so they run concurrently, this enables the clients using older versions to remain backwards compatible why still satisfying those who want the upgrade. If this works for you then I would probably recommend <<MOD EDIT>> I have been satisfied with how they approach these sorts of issues.
<<MOD NOTICE>>
Nate, I'm only going to say this once. You are listed as the admin and billing contact of the host you mentioned (which has been edited out). I ask you to read the forum rules posted at the top of each forum. If you fail to do this, you will have to be banned.
