Is there a program that can be used with Linux for remote access to your dedicated server so that you can get on your dedicated servers desktop up on your local desktop? I cannot remeber name of the program windows uses, sorry for my ignorence, been a long day. I just dont like telnet or shell and think that the remote access where you can get on the servers desktop is so damn handy.

any help would be great.

Do you mean an X-Windows shell? If so, exceed might be what you are looking for.

If X-Windows shell is capeable of putting your servers desktop on the desktop of your workstation just like if you were sitting in front of the servers monitor then yes thats what I want,,,,,,,,,,Where would i get exceed? www.exceed.com? Sorry its been a long day and im going to be up for most the night still getting all this put together. Im just starting to get stressed and need to get this figured out.

PS. I want to stay with rackshack if exceed is another hosting site or do they have the standalone software for the remote access?

thanks for your response.

Exceed (http://www.hummingbird.com/products/nc/exceed/) allows you to export a unix machine's desktop environment. It allows you to run programs from your server on your desktop. I used it for a couple of years when I actually used windoze, and it was quite good.

You might want to take a look at this http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/index.html. I've played around with it a little and it seems to work pretty well.
