View Full Version : Boot Loop?

My Raq 4i was recieving an immense amount of traffic and had a high cpu load for some time now. As a result I've been requesting reboots from rackshack every other day or so for some time now. Business as usual until yesterday when after requesting a reboot I was informed that my raq would not boot, and that it was stuck in a 'boot loop' making it impossible to access by the technicians at Rackshack. They defined boot loop = boots up to say cobalt networks and begins to uncompress kernal and then suddenly goes back the cobalt networks part.

Hoping someone here has a solution, or an idea on how to fix this, Rackshack's claiming that only a full restore will fix it.

Thanks.

Did they offer any sort of way to try to get it booted.. or see what it was having trouble with? They can hook to the serial port and see what's going on a little better..

Or, as a last resort, you can bring up another raq.. (tell them you believe it to be a hardware failure.. they might be responsible if it is..) mount the 'bad' raq's drive on there, and move things over to the new one if need be.. I can help you with the ladder if you like once it's mounted on the other raq

Nope, just said it wasn't booting and that they want to restore it. Explain the serial thing to me?

Thanks for the suggestions!

You can hook up a terminal to the raq (well, they can) and view what it's actually doing.. a little better than the little screen that's on em ;)

ladder.. as in.. the second option :)

They put it in a clean raq and got the same loop problem supposedly. Problem is they claim that they don't do backups on data!
Any ideas?
