View Full Version : Real-time transactions and network latency issues

Hello all,

Our real-time credit card payment processor is based in the U.K - where our Internet Merchant Account is. Would there there be any significant increase in network latency - thus poor response times from our server - if we are to acquire a dedicated server in the U.S, and deploy our application there? All credit card transactions are processed real-time across a SOAP interface. Does the distance between the server and payment processor really matter, or is the bandwidth and network speeds so good that the distance has no noticeable impact. We anticipate a high volume of activity on our site.

Thank you kindly!

Murphree.

Welcome to the forums Murphree

There is always going to be some latency. The best thing to do is once they hit submit to go over to the electronic payment gateway go to a page that says processing. This way the consumer knows it is working.

I have purchased things online & sometimes have to wait 30 seconds or so before I am approved. But it really should not be a problem as far as the distance / connection.

Hey Corey!

Your response does tally with what I am getting from other gurus. I believe we'll go for it then since servers in the U.S are very competitively priced.
