Hi Guys

a Question for u all

say u were a Dedicated Server reseller, for example u got your Dedicated Servers from
say ev1servers and u were authorised to resell them on to clients

Say i bought a server from you and i was a authorised reseller for your company and i resold
this server

To make it easier let say
Company A = Datacentre
Company B = Your Company
Company C = Me
Company D = My client

Now Someone complained to your datacentre and the Datacentre Contacted you to investigate
*something* about this particular server who i sold off to a client

My Question is...One would you contact me about whats going on so i could investigate myself?
or would you simply ask me get the Root password off your client cos we need to investigate
something?

Reason why im asking this im in a similar situation with *a company* i wont mention names
yet but i will if things dont work out and get nasty..im gonna be sensible and Try and sort
it out with them

im in the situation of company C where i bought a server and sold it off to the client
Company Contacted me saying "We need the Password for the Server of Company D to investigate"
Some issue. If you dont give us the password within 12 hrs we will reset the Root password
and Suspend the Server pending investigation"

So i emailed them back saying ill email my client and get the password off him..

got the password off him and emailed them back giving it to them..I personally checked the
server maself did not find anything dodgy on it...

Then i got an email this morning saying

"Sorry i cannot wait any longer i had to change the root password"

I got no acknowledgement or anything that they got my email that i sent them the password
and i know for a fact that it got throught to them cos i got a reciept for the email.

So basically they are doing investigation without even notifying me what the heck went on?
with my clients server. The password is now changed and im left in the dark

Is this a reasonable approach to do things?Do you think i should have been notified atleast
to try and resolve it myself?

Id like ur views please on this!

Thanks!
S

(like i said im gonna be sensible and try and resolve this via email..if after a few weeks
it dont get anywhere i will name this company who done this on this thread)

I do not agree with ANY of the large dedicated server companies. Often times they make stupid mistakes and use poor judgement. In my opinion, its because they've made dedicated servers a commodity. Treating each customer as a # and not realizing people are actually running businesses. I've seen countless threads about companies like ev1 or servermatrix wiping peoples servers, or making modifications to them that were unwarranted. Its just rediculous.

Hi,

That is not a professional approach, was the server managed?

As if the server was not managed they really shouldn't need access to it in any case, they should also have specified what they wanted to *investigate*.

Hi

Thanks for your reply

Yes the Servers was "supposedly" suppose to be managed by that company well thats what they claim..!

Still i emailed them this morning saying i sent them the password ive heard nothing yet and my client is complaining to me they cant access their Webserver (they are using that server as a hosting company) so u can imagine the problems faced by this!

I will post the contents of the email here just to show u the tone of it

"Please be advised we need this servers root password to investigate some complaints. If the root password is not provided in the next 12 hours the pass will be changed and access to the server will be suspended pending the completion of our investigation."

Personally I find the way and tone of this email offensive and plain rude..besides im in UK and the company is based across the atlantic..i emailed them within 12 hrs first email saying "ill ask my client the password" then couple of hrs later i rmember i had that clinets password cos a few days before i needed to fix something for them so i emailed my DS provider this!
