Hi there

One of my customers is trying to protect a sub folder using frontpage.
He says he's using "Extras" - "User Authentication" (maybe slightly different, translated from german) but the server is giving him the following error:

"Serverfehler: Cannot open "/home/sites/site18/web/.htaccess" no such file or folder".

I have already searched the cobalt-users archive but haven't found anything useful.

TIA
Marc

If your user wants to do everything from within FrontPage, (which is probably the best way to avoid problems), then any subdirectories that he wants to protect will have to exist as separate subwebs in FrontPage.

You cannot password protect specific pages or subdirectories within FrontPage without going the subweb route. Each "web" (or subweb, in this case) can only be password protected as a whole entity.

For instructions on how to convert a subdirectory into a subweb, see

http://www.msfrontpage.net/fp/htconvertsubdirectory.htm

Your customer can then use the Tools >> Security option to create a username/password combination for the subweb.

Hope this helps,

Brandon

Hi again

It seems it didnt work out. Because now this customer is getting an other error:

"Serverfehler: The web server you are using does not support creating, renaming or deleting subwebs from the FrontPage client. You must ask your ISP or web server administrator to create, rename or delete your subweb."

Do I have to enable something special? I havent found anything in the control panel.
If it requires working on the CLI, I have no problem with this...

btw this is on RaQ3.

Sorry, I've got RaQ3's and RaQ4's and the FP2000 extensions, using FP2000 as the client, and it works with no problems.

Give the FrontPage newsgroups a try (use Google to do an advanced groups search on the group *frontpage*)
