OK, I've notice that some parties have complained about unlimited ... I wanted to post my views to get a real good understanding from the industry

unlimited e-mail accounts.
I don't see a problem because as the client makes more account, they use up more drive space. you might get to bill on that end. plus you get to bill on bandwidth.

Unlimited bandwidth ... I know that story and agree with everyone that hates it.

Unlimited E-Mail Redirects
now you can bill inbound and out bound on the bandwidth, risk is on the cpu and short term usage of the hard drive.

I'm not sure so correct me if i'm wrong but with redirects (e-mail) the message comes in, hit's the hard drive for a write, then the redirector reads the e-mail and sends it back out.

Unlimited Autoresponders
All I can see is that it might eat up cpu resources and you have an auto bandwidth usage for every one.

Unlimited Users (ftp user types )
This is a security risk from my point of view, I really can't understand why someone would offer it.

Unlimited MySQL Database
this I think is risky because of CPU usage, I/O activity. But again the other side is the hard drive space taken up so there is a billable chance.

I really would like to see the outcome of this thread. I know that there are pleanty of host that offer some of these item's and it would be nice to know how each item might have affected them.

I've actually been wrestling with this one. I offer unlimited e-mail accounts. But yes...as each email account takes up diskspace the customer eventually runs out of diskspace...

My own explanation to the customers is: the number of addresses is unlimited but limited by diskspace. So if you buy extra diskspace you can add more addresses without having to pay extra for them.

Although it is true, I somehow do not feel comfortable with it though. Think I'll change it soon.

As for unlimited bandwidth...I'll offer it to any user in exchange for unlimited amounts of monthly payments ;)

The best term I've ever personally been able to come up with is RBL which is Resouces Based Limits (think it will catch on, heh?). I don't see anything wrong with putting limts on things that 1) obviously have limits and 2) should have limits (meaning that if people are paying $10/mo for a shared account, they should know that they aren't going to get unlimited emails and are welcome to start HotMail II).

There have been so many threads here on this. But I think that definitely the biggest problem is with unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth, for free.

The unlimited email accounts and unlimited aliases is really incorrect too, because there are limits, but I don't think that most people have such a big gripe about it.

I'll have to hire extra people to answer all the emails asking what "RBL" means. I think I'll pass :D

Well, you'd have to define it. It wouldn't be impossible... (hint: link).
