Hi there,

I just leased vbulletin. I needed a forum for my personal site but the thing is I really don't know how this hack or template or skin thing is working. Do I just copy and paste over the graphic files. Does it require shell access to be able to manipulate the code. Does it require a lot of work.

I really need some links. I googled way too much but just couldn't find anything. One site I fould was vbstyles.com and it doesn't look good. I can also pay for skin or templates(whatever its called) so feel free to recommend a paid service site besides free ones.

Thanks

Log into www.vbulletin.com and read the documentations. Also check out www.vbulletin.org it's the official hack website.

To install a "skin" then the directions should have came with the file. You only need FTP access to install a skin.

To install a "hack" you only need to open up your admin CP and modify the templates. The "hack" should have came with instructions on how to do this.

Heya

It is not too difficult to create skins for vBulletin.

There are also a few free skins at vbulletintemplates.com that you might want to give a try.

As for paid skins, there are a few that offer paid skins, but most of the pre-made skins are rather generic in my humble opinion. But if I'm not mistaken, most of those sites also offer custom made skins.

Nevertheless, here are some sites that sell skins for vBulletin:

vbmechanic.com (One of the better sites)
vbpanel.com
extremepixels.com

A "hack" is where there is direct vbulletin PHP code modification. If you upgrade vbulletin, you need to re-install the hacks. You need to be careful not to install too many hacks, and keep track of any hacks that you do install. You will most probably need to make template modifications when you install a hack.

A "style/template" is where absolutely no php code is modified. All template installations can be done through AdminCP and if required, FTP to upload graphics etc. vbulletin does not discard template changes when upgrading. This is basically visual modification only!
