So what do you guys consider a reasonable affiliate percentage?

I'm setting up an affiliate program for both domain names and digital certificates, but I'm finding the different offerings all over the map.

Some require the affiliate to do all the work and appear to benefit the offering party over the affiliate, and some appear to be raping the offering party and giving everything to the affiliate, in order to bring in one or two dollars in profit - perhaps simply expanding their customer base in the short term and planning on changing things down the line.

It's been an interesting study, however I'm not sure I'm any closer to an answer than I was when I started!

I don't really understand your third paragraph, but I think you should give affiliates 25% of your profit... Or look at what other affiliate programs pay.

I have looked at other programs, and though I'm not going to berate them individually, what I tried to allude to in my third paragraph above was the level of work associated with some seem out of line with the payment - on both sides of the equation.

This is the crux of why I'm asking for opinions on the percentage paid in a program. I suppose I should also be asking about the amount of work expected for the profit earned.

Is it enough for the affiliate to send a customer to your website with a link for them to get 25% of your profit. This now would be a referral, not an affiliate per se.

Would you expect the affiliate to deal with the customer? Answer pre-sales questions? Host data collection forms? Actually take the order and then pass it along to you?

Your comments and questions are welcome.
