View Full Version : Firefox password manager question

I use Opera because of the magic wand.

I have to use Firefox (or IE) to access a vital (to me) site which is password protected.

I can see the password has been saved in Firefox by viewing my saved passwords.

When I am on that site's login page, what do I need to do to use the saved password? I see nothing like magic wand to click, just clicking the login button on the site doesn't make the saved password appear.

There's nothing enlightening in Firefox' help files so I thought I'd ask here.

Try typing in the first few letters of your username. It should pop up your username. As soon as you select it the password is normally autofilled in.

Ahah. First, I had to uncheck the 'remember me' box on the login. Then, when I did as you said, I saw my username. Great, but then I still have to tab into the password box and type that. Perhaps I should delete the saved password and start over.

Yup, that did the trick. They shoulda ripped off Opera for that feature, wand works better IMHO.

Thanks for the help, frozen.

Normally if there is only one username stored for a site, it will automatically input that username and password when you visit the the login area, then all you need to do is press submit.

Works now. What was happening, is each time I logged in Firefox was saving the password new each time, so I had multiple (identical) entries. Leaving the 'remember me' box unchecked on the site fixed the problem, but I had to delete saved passwords first. Doesn't matter on Opera.
