Won't such low prices just create a flood of new signups thus slowing down your servers and irritating your customers?

You can just add more servers to supply an increase in demand but with such a low income how would you have the cash to buy more equipment and bandwidth?

dun worry, each server will contain no more than 500 customers, all new customers are directed to our 3rd server. Specs

Dual Xeon 2.4 GHz w/HT
2 GB RAM

Hmmm. Not sure I want to be sharing with 500 other customers.

Anyway, the math does not work, 500 * 1Gb = 500Gb, where do you get that kind of disk from?

we do not have a hard disk that big...

but we sure do know how to transfer people to another server when hard disk is 90% used

having 500 clients doesn't mean requiring 500gb of disk space. As some of the clients may be using less than the assigned space. Though Chrisbowd is right, not many people would be happy sharing the server with 499 other customers.

a cpu intensive user will be moved to a server with very little people, so that the 500 people server will be using very little resources, and will not cause server to slow down

i only have 150max customers on a server.... So CPU has never gone over 5% usage.

cpu will never go high for me too, except when daily backups occurs...

whm is configured to backup daily, so maybe the CPU rise will occurs a few mins a day, but besides that, it is perfectly alright

Anything less than 100% still allows the processor to perform the maximum number of operations per second.

Nonetheless, 500 users per server is rediculous.

i know that, but i like to make sure that all users get what they pay for and dont have to experiance poor speed etc

dun worry, 500 is a number i have set aside for, as i said users with huge usage and when the hard disk is almost full, will be automatically transferred to a new server, and transferring is free...

or when server starts to show performance drop, it is time to make new users to start on a new server. :)

Navel, it might be to your benefit to post in a more professional "language" when communicating with your customers, it might also be helpful to not disclose that you seriously oversell your resources. Given what I have seen in this post it makes me not want to purchase your services.

do not worry, i'm not exactly overselling

i always have a extra server ready to be used anytime.

You may not exactly be overselling but if you are posting about having 500 customers on a server, to most that would sound like overselling.

i said never more than 500, anyway that is some sort of estimate only

but usually i do not really count the number of accounts, i just see if the server is capable of storing as much as possible, while maintaining fast speed for everyone
