View Full Version : Plan suggestion
cahostnet 01-04-2002, 03:27 PM We are in the process of changing the way we do our web hosting business by going to a pay as you use approach. Basically you start out with nothing and you build your own package. I want to get your views as to how the pricing is for the packages. Please do not complete the order form with junk. :)
You can view the system at https://cp.cahostnet.com:8443/orders/hosting/quote.php for ssl or http://www.cahostnet.com/signup/quote.php
Let me know how your custom build packages came out.
Thanks...

Is not a bit pricey $171/month ?
cahostnet 01-04-2002, 06:00 PM well yes and no, you had 20GB of bandwidth and 1 gb of space and 999 of pop accounts. Now keep in mind this is not a resellers package although you can do whatever you want with it.
we will lower the pop price. It's currently at $0.10 and the disk space is set at $0.05. Can't really go down any further on that. The bandwidth is at $1.00. We may lower the mailing list amount and possibly the domain price. We may even offer it as unlimited but probably not since we have a resllers system for that. The price will lower though.
The idea is to give you the user what they need and have them pay only for that instead of paying every month for 10 gb of bandwidth and only using 2gb or 100 mb of space and using 10 mb. So this give them the flexibilty. They will save some money monthly or even yearly if you look at it.
Thanks for the input!
loballhostin 01-05-2002, 04:34 AM You bought ModernBill and Modified it! thats all you did. You took thier source that they send with the program, and added a "qoute" script to it.. not that hard, if anyone wants one, I can give it to them. not that hard... the qoute anyways, then just go to modernbill.com and buy thier software. really good stuff..

alpha 01-05-2002, 05:06 AM Blah, actually - I am the original developer of the script. I coded a script for Brad Pugh (a WHT member: Vortech) who owns and operates VortechHosting.com . This was a payed development project that I was hired by Brad to do. We had some conflicts with the setup of the script and other conflicts so I thought it best if I stopped working on it once I finished what was requested originally.
There was a major conflict after my part of the development actually ended; however, I've discussed the issue with Brad and now he has the right to do anything with that script as he wanted to... Therefore, I'm guessing he partnered up with ModernBill and allowed ModernBill the script so that it can be modified to be implemented with ModernBill's client management system. The signup script that ModernBill includes in their sales package was modified from the original script in which I developed personally. If you are looking for a signup/quoting script that is implemented with a very encouraging client management system like ModernBill, then I'd suggest that you purchase their product.
However, if you are just a starting out host who just needs a simple yet versatile PHP script for signups or quotations, I will be willing to provide you with the original script for free. This version will work alone and it is fully customizable to fit your needs. Please direct all requests/comments/questions to john@alpha-digital.com !
Thank you,
John Hwang
PS> Here's the demo of the script that I provided to Brad when it was considered a final product on my part.

Thank you.
cahostnet 01-05-2002, 12:30 PM Hey, this thread is getting of course! Alpha, thanks for getting back to me. Yes I bought the script from Brad several months ago and never really used it due to my control panel. I was playing around with the quote.php file to add some additions to it but didn't have the time to really finish it so I had someone finish it for yet another price! Proably not a good move (couldn't have saved some time.) I still plan on making more addition to it.
Well if anyone is interested and it's fine with you I can give the orrigional code to anyone that wants it. It's pretty good but the script never got developed like it was suppose to when I purchased it. I've also seen allot of people using it on the web so he made a killing with it. Overall I've probably spent more money for this script than I wanted.
lobalhosting, NO I didn't get the script from ModernBill.
Will never lie about such things, just not worth my time. Alpha good stuff by the way. If you have suggestions abou the script let me know.
OK, so now that this is cleared :) Can we get bck to my post. Help me out with your suggestions.
Thanks...
TimPD 01-05-2002, 12:47 PM If you would please send it to me tim-NOSPAM@paradise-designs.net. Please remove the no spma as normal and the - . I would love to use this script.

Maybe I'm going too far :P
But, why do you charge per email accounts.
I understand that is 1 GB space and 20 GB Bandwidth, the BW price is really good, but space is cheap lately, probably you can charge less.
I think that that kind of plan worth around $40-$50, well anyway, that just my thought :)
BTW nice script also :)
cahostnet 01-05-2002, 07:14 PM Thanks Jedito,
Well like I said we are in the planning stages for this and thus the thread. We may not charge for email accounts after all. The idea was that email uses up resources and when there are allot of people on the email system you use up bw and cpu resources etc. But we may just offer that for free and that way we'll just charge for bw and disk space b/c the more people on the system the more bw and disk space will be used.
When you get a chance try the system again. I made some changes in the price.
What do you think about that?
Thanks...
Jedito 01-05-2002, 07:27 PM this is what I got now
Webspace - 1000 MBs: $30
Data Transfer - 20000 MBs: $20
MySQL Databases - 8 DBs: $0
MySQL Databases Space - 20 MBs: $0.6
Static IP - No $0
Domains Hosted - 1 $1
Number of POP accounts - 999 $49.95
Number of Mailing Lists - 0 $0
Price Per Term: $101.55
Contract Term: Monthly
Setup Fee: $15
Total Purchase Price: (includes Setup Fees) $116.55
Probably you can charge 0.015 per MB Space
1.5 per GB BW.
That would cost around $45
And let email free, I understand what you mean of customer abusing of email, but you can also charge them for the BW in their email accounts.
Space is cheap, BW expensive :)
cahostnet 01-05-2002, 08:12 PM Thanks again. We had just discussed the same idea here too. We kept the space at $0.05 and bandwidth went to $1.50 Email is free, db is free, mailinglist is free. Try it again!!!
alpha 01-05-2002, 08:15 PM If you have requested the script, check your e-mail ;)
I sent out the email and attachment at 7:07PM EST.
Thanks and have a great day!
John
Jedito 01-05-2002, 08:22 PM Still charged for email :(
Webspace - 1000 MBs: $30
Data Transfer - 20000 MBs: $20
MySQL Databases - 8 DBs: $0
MySQL Databases Space - 20 MBs: $0.6
Static IP - No $0
Domains Hosted - 1 $1
Number of POP accounts - 999 $49.95
Number of Mailing Lists - 0 $0
Price Per Term: $101.55
Contract Term: Monthly
Setup Fee: $15
Total Purchase Price: (includes Setup Fees) $116.55
BTW John, nice to see you back :)
Can you send me the script? I'm not planing to use right now, but I want to play a little with it :)
cahostnet 01-05-2002, 08:26 PM Try it now. And yes I'll send you the script. just send me an email (PM) and I'll reply back to it.
Jedito 01-05-2002, 08:31 PM same :(
BTW I'm using https://cp.cahostnet.com:8443/orders/hosting/quote.php I don't know if is correct.
My email is in my signature, jorgec@downtownhost.com :)
cahostnet 01-05-2002, 10:33 PM OH, didn't update those files yet. It's updated now.
Check your mail!!! :)
PERL SCRIPTOR 01-05-2002, 11:38 PM If you find that some accounts are right on the mark for costs, while others may "appear" expensive you may wish to add a multi-layer cost index based on disk space or transfer. For example, if the client purchases over 20 GB they offer them a lower rate on disk space or a lower rate on bandwidth altogether. It can be easily done by putting the price indexs in a MySQL database and select the appropriate index based on the resource of your choice. I once did this for a PERL script I was using with www.dataphorce.com but sadly they went under, or rather were never running. :bawling:
If anyone is interested I could probably dicuss this more so just drop me an e-mail if your interested.
Vortech 01-06-2002, 02:49 AM Just a note the script alpha made did work good for what it was. We just wanted a lot more in it and alpha just never had the time. But trust me the script worked great for us from alpha at first. Every one should like it.. :)
cahostnet 01-07-2002, 03:26 PM Thanks everyone who helped out with our setup. I think we've gotten it now. We should be launching this shortly and hope it does well.
I'm glad everyone also got something out of it (free script!!)
Keep an eye out for the update and give us any suggestions that you may have.
Thanks...
