avara 01-04-2002, 06:51 PM How much bandwidth is included?
onthecatwalk 01-04-2002, 06:53 PM unlimited
ckpeter 01-04-2002, 08:04 PM onthecatwalk,
On this forum, people are extremely sensitve to unlimited diskspace or bandwidth.
You should expect to be misjudged, unless you take corrective measure quickly.
If you still don't know what I mean, search this forum for "unlimited"

onthecatwalk 01-04-2002, 08:27 PM I don't understand...what i mean is we don't track it, we don't charge for this, we host the site and charge for services, not how often the site is hit, we give every site "unlimited" meaning whats available from the entire network.
LiveTronix 01-04-2002, 08:33 PM So say i came along with a huge site and constantly made the network slower for other users, and used more then my fair share? You would try to work out something where I pay more, simply speaking it's impossible for any company to give you unlimited b/w theres always a limit.
onthecatwalk 01-04-2002, 08:47 PM ok first off, our customer contacts us, we talk to them, find out what there site is, expected or current traffic, and what the demands are, then we determine if we are the right place for them...we do not allow sites with high volumes of downloads or anything like that. We simply host small business sites, nothing major, thats why on our site you can't just signup, you have to contact us. We are not running a scam business here, we make sure that all the servers are getting the same network attention and that one server isn't overloaded with sites. We have never had any probelms with a conjested network. Our network is designed to give all servers equal attention when possible. I say unlimited but i sould really refrase it, i didn't realise that everyone felt so strongly about that, i mean "whats available" Im sorry I didn't realise. But bottom line, we monitor, but we make changes to the network to accomidate the high volume sites...which we dont have much of.:erm:

Take my advice, search the board, and you will see why.
I fully understand what you are thinking, but just search first, and you will understand.

onthecatwalk 01-04-2002, 08:57 PM i looked but i could not find any posts to what you are refering, could someone post a link to an example?
avara 01-04-2002, 08:58 PM Basically many hosts have come to abuse "unlimited", disconnecting sites for using more than average bandwidth. And while your intentions are good, the term "unlimited" in relation to bandwidth and disk space has been given a very bad name.
Therefore, I would suggest putting up some sort of limit. Say for example even if you don't really monitor bandwidth per se, sites using over 20 GB might come to your attention, so you could put up a limit of 20 GB/month (just an example). And make sure you stick to that.
onthecatwalk 01-04-2002, 09:02 PM Well than that is what I will have to do! Thanks! I wasn't aware that people did that, Thanks! :homer:
