Well.. hummn..

Do a trace on boostedbox.com and you'll see that they are selling RackShack servers.

How are they doing it so cheaply (well below RS's pricing)

"The Cobalt servers have easy to use control panel, and can host up to 255 virtual sites on 1 IP address!"

That *slightly* less than true statement makes me wonder.. 255?

Not without "unapproved" modification.

More power to them if they can sell servers for less than they are paying for them. Unless they have purchased so many tht they got a discount..

Why can't you host 255 sites on 1 IP address? Theoretically you can host as many as you want -- or am I missing something?

They're site seems to be hosted at rackshack....

Just an observation "From the Streets of L.A"

Boosted means stolen on the streets... don't know why they'd choose that name... stolen server .com :-)

From what I know about the cobalts, they have a 200 limit coded in.. it can be changed and you could host more but I think it would void the warranty likely.. My point is, they don't ship that way and it sounds a bit.. overblown...

How can they offer those pricing on ded servers and be on RS they must be a con because RS doesnt even offer some of those packages 600 gigs transfer duel 800 with scsi hd's for 100$/month... If they actually could offer those things for those price's i'd be buying straight away ...

Hi!
Fee/30 = 1 day's fee.
We own a data centre, and the server is in the USA.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

What do you mean by fee/30?

Do you own your own data centre or if not... where will be the server located?

Thanks.

Hi!
We have been providing services since June 2001, but our servers went online on Jan 2001, becouse we were testing... We guarantee 99.9% uptime, and if we get down, we refund
1. if the downtime is less then a day then monthly fee/30
2. if the downtime is more then a day then the whole monthly fee. Bandwidth is measured actual. Each server plans have IP's included. If you need more IP's then 4 IP addresses are $5/month.
We allow adult content both on web hosting services and on dedicated servers. We can provide: IRC, ICQ, E-mail and phone support Reboot is free. No, sorry we don't accept PayPal yet, but we are planning to add PayPal support at around february. We can take check from overseas, and also wire transfer... Network is:
Verio OC3 Link (155Mbps), Savvis OC3 Link (155Mbps), ELI DS3 Link (45Mbps), Sonet OC3 (155Mbps), Cogent GB Link (1000Mbps)

Of course, you can resell the space on your server, and you can run a web hosting company...

Subject: Some questions about your dedicated server deal

Hi,

May I know the following:

1. How long have your company been providing these services (web hosting/dedicated servers etc.)?
2. How's your uptime guarantee? 99.9%? What if you can't meet it?
3. Bandwidth is measured in actual, 95th or average calculation?
4. How much is to get additional IP?
5. Do you allow adult content?
6. What type of support can you provide? 24/7/365 email support or chat or both or etc.? Any phone support? Reboot is free or what?
7. Do you accept Paypal payment?
8. Do you accept check from overseas?
9. Network connection details?
10. Can I use the dedicated box to run web hosting business?

That's all for the time being.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Regards,
Giam

Why does it hurt so much to say you resell or are located in a datacenter that you don't own?

We all know that he's overselling and basically gambling....

Edit: I just looked at the site and noticed that he was selling dedicated servers way below what rackshack is charging. I dunno how that works. The original post I made was based on one of the virtual hosting plans someone here mentioned.

Hmm Hosted through SONET? AFAIK Sonet is a type of data transfert

symetrical optical network or something along those lines?

Verio OC3 Link (155Mbps), Savvis OC3 Link (155Mbps), ELI DS3 Link (45Mbps), Sonet OC3 (155Mbps), Cogent GB Link (1000Mbps)

I think I agree with you about overselling..

He may just have installed a system of "virtual servers" similar to VMware on his rackshack box, and hopes noone will see the difference? Thus letting him install 10 or so "dedicated server" into his one dedicated rackshack box. After all, most ded servers (I said "most") use less than 5% of the server's resources.
Same goes for bandwidth.

I dunno, it kinda makes sense I think.. After all, what is legally defined as a "dedicated server" .. or a "virutal private server"? No legal definitions after all, so he can call his "packages" the way he wants, I dunno..

In any case, it's just wrong..

Re: boostedbox

Some members have expressed concern over this and without going into details (as I treat emails as private), I'll only bring up a couple of points for you to consider, ones I feel would be valid no matter what.

The site uses a self-signed cert. to take orders. This might not be all that much of a concern to some degree but after a bit of digging on the domain and the server, etc. (read: whois), you'll notice a rather odd set of email addresses and domains.

If there is anything else to be said, I'll let the people who it concerns say it.

really odd! to say the least!!!!

boostedbox.com is in the ev1.com (rackshack) network...

it has irc (rackshack, at least in theory doesn't allow irc servers, not even clients!).

if you check port 25 and 110, it's nandi.sexcastle.jp who answers!!!!

if you check the whois for sexcastle.jp all records point to sunil@depi.net

if you check the whois for depi.net you get back to the same guy that owns boostedbox! (and, as a matter of fact, you end up in the boostedbox website if you try to go to www.depi.net)

when you check the host for www.dapi.net, you find out that napi.net is a nickname (canonical) of wf.dnsvr.com... and you get two ips: one point to dnsvr, the second one to nac.net !!!!

all services but web (port 80) seems to be disable in those ips.

but it does not stop with that ;)...

in their website (news) they say:

2001-12-14: New Server (amd.boostedbox.com) added. Specs: AMD 1000Mhz Duron, 512MB RAM, 20Gb ATA-66 HDD. Virtual Hosting control panel (Plesk) added.

but... if you check the signature from apache in amd.boostedbox.com you get....
Apache/1.3.19 Server at ensim.rackshack.net Port 80

in other words.. they say plesk.. but now that box is an ensim box!

but... hold your horses... the site also mentions titan.boostedbox.com... and that point to an ip owns by globix!

and.. to finish.. I went to irc.boostedbox.com... and... checking there the whois for nandi... he's connecting from... freeshel.hu...

if you keep looking... (and I won't say how ;)... you could even take a wild guess and say that he lives in NY...

then...

I do not think I would send this guy a single dollar ;) (well... perhaps up to ten... only to see what happens ;)))

Cheers!

But somhow I doub it!...

what is really, really strange... is that what you see (the id of the young girl... well... probably a teeneger by now, but I do not understand hungarian ;0) is hosted in the rackshack box!... mmmm....

furthermore, the two files that compose that "website" (index.html and kitty.jpg are dated december 14 @ 14:48!)

also, port 25 (sendmail) and port 110 (POP) are still up, and answering as before!

the irc daemon is still up, and the two channels are there!

topping all this... there is a strange posting in the RS forums... where one of the RS's clients complained that a "dislexic" secretary called him for his "terrorists websites"... but the RS number was rong (two numbers transposed)...

oh well.. perhaps we will find out sometime! ;)

cheers!

That was me, it was a really funny call.

They were like "we can't tell you what to do but this site has to go it's a terrorist web site hosted on your server" I was like "oh crap DOMAIN PLEASE so I can delete it asap, don't want no FBI knockin on my door for being a terrorist!" they gave me the url, honestly I forget now. I was like ok LOOKING NOW... and looking... Lady I don't host this domain, so I nslookup the domain "uhm, this isn't my IP" she was like "uh" "uh" "uh, oops your RS-7603, this is RS-7063" (or something like that) I was like "hahah good lord do not scare me like that"

What makes me think that this one is the one even more.. did anyone notice the timing between the first post in this thread and when HS made the notification at RS on no new servers and the FBI?? They were pretty close together and HS definately reads this board too..

I'm 99.99% sure the terrorist web site and this were totally unrelated.

Hello
Just to clarify one of the points at the beginning of this thread:

There is no limit to the number of sites that can share one IP.
We have 1520 domains sahring the one IP with proper virtual servers for each as part of one of our projects and it works fine.
