Ok, I have a PC that has the same functions as a linux server. Can I send it to some place for CO-Location. Do you think they will except it?

Here are the specs:

AMD DURON 1Ghz
40GB Hard Drive
512Megs DDR RAM

Has Redhat Linux 6.2

Eternet Card Installed 10/100

Thanks

It is quite possible, however you would need to pay for the size of the server space, which might be quite big considering the size of home computers compared to a normal 1U server.

Buy a 1U or 2U Case and stick it in there then send it to a NOC.

Absolutely. There really is no difference between what you have and what we call a server -- except for maybe the size and shape of the case.

A quote from one of my professors is relevant here:

Apache is a server. Sendmail is a server. BIND is a server.

That box sitting in a datacenter somewhere? That isn't a server. That's a box sitting in a datacenter somewhere.

Do NOT send this box anywhere, untill you put secondary (backup) hard drive in it. Also write a script that backups data to the secondary drive every night.
