Hi all,

I've seen the responses to this post (http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=29440) when someone asked how much an oc-3 line would cost to own, and I was wondering if anyone knew an approximate cost for fractional ds3 lines? Possibly just 3Mbps or 6Mbps for starters.

I'm contemplating what I would want to do if I were to start a hosting business for local small businesses and small websites (if I don't just go with rackshack to get going.) This is really just out curiosity more than anything else :-p. Thanks!

Frac DS3 you are talking 3200-6000 + loop
Now you can do a multi meg T one for much less.
6Mb multi meg you are looking at $2800+loop

These are rough ideas, but they give you an idea.

I was looking at some pricing in my area, T-1 was around $900 on a 2yr contract with a $200 local loop. A frational DS3s local loop was $1,200 to 1,500 a month, and from $2,500 to $5,000 for a 3 to 6mbps, of course it was all negotiable concerning contract length. Local loop is much higher for a DS3 than a T-1 because its a full DS3 loop thats capped at whatever mbps you purchase, or at least thats what they were telling me.

A friend of mine got a fractional T1, I think running at 512kbps, for $200/mo INCLUDING local loop (he was quoted double that from another company). So do check around, as there are often many different providers.

Edit: I am aware that you are looking for a fractional DS3, not a T1. I just posted this as an example.

Fractional T3/DS3s run about $500-$800.00/MO per Mbps not including the Local Loop (this is under 10 Mbps) from a Tier 1 provider. For each 10 Mbps you get, the price decreases.

Correct .. Loops can range from 2K to 4K .. usually you start seeing saving at 25+ Mbit .. actually for SPRINT the price for 25Mbit is the same as for the full 45Mbit :D
