I'm going to be basically using this as a home system. You know the usual word processing, photoshop, windows/linux system, games, mp3s, cd-burning, etc. (For now anyways) This will NOT be for a server or anything. I'm just curious as to which system you would pick and why. Thanks

Just don't get the P4. I'd bet money that's on SDram, which cancels out the P4 being able to win in any single benchmark against an Athlon. The Xeon system seems like a very good deal. Might want to look into building one yourself though. Usually cheaper, and is a better system that way.

Also check out http://resellerratings.com and check tigers score, and comments, you might not want to shop there.

Someone once told me that dual CPU machines for home use are semi-pointless as most apps don't use it, but I know very little of exactly why and wasn't considering a dual processor machine at the time, so I didn't pay much attention.
I have a PIII 933 (on a mother board that could take two processors), but for what you listed (what you'll be doing with it), I'd think something around this spec would be good.
I don't think another PIII 933 is too expensive (under $200) and I'd add it if I needed it and would work, but I think I'd add ram first (384MB currently).

If you have the cash I would look into and Alienware (http://www.alienware.com) computer as I've heard that they make a great product. Only problem is they're are very high priced.

I just bought an Emachine T4150 to replace a workstation.
256MB of SDRAM
1.5Ghz Intel Pentium 4
Onboard Realtek 8139 NIC
Onboard Intel AC97 3d Audio
Intel 815 mobo
nVidia TNT2 M64 card in AGP slot
Crappy Coxenant modem in PCI slot
40GB drive.
Crappy Samsung 12X CDR/W
Decent keyboard and mouse.
1 Windows XP license
It was only $750. The cheapest thing I could find at the time. Even cheaper than putting it together with pieces from mwave.
