For installing Linux you just need a computer and the Linux CD's.
A router can be emulated via software.
Otherwise it is a hardware... CISCO is the market leader in this... :)

The linux router project is doing well. You can get more info here .

Have a great day :)

Hi!
Both FreeBSD and Linux are two different OS's. They are very similar from the end users point of view however they have different kernels.
Both are cool.. :)
You can get redhat linux from
redhat.com
FreeBSD from
freebsd.org

Or try some mall like

linuxmall.com where you can get cheap CD's for starting out... :)

Have a great day :)

You can make a pentium 100MHZ with 32MB of ram into a decent linux server. What are you going to use the server for?

I would also recommend you scrap the P4 and go to a P3, you will get more bang for you buck!

Just an observeration, but it seems your knowledge on servers / servers in the web environment isn't up to scratch, and your intending to sell webspace?
I presume this server would be based at home, as you commented on routers too.

I recommend you research heavily, buy books covering apache, bind/dns etc. and install a version of linux on your server, and thoroughly get to grips with it before starting to sell webspace.

I second that. Everyone has to start somewhere, but we have all read and screwed up machines as part of the learning process before starting to charge for it.. :D
