Hi there,
When we change shared hosting providers, we update the DNServers let's say from Godaddy, like:
ns1.sharedhosting.com
ns2.sharedhosting.com
and the propogation is done within 1-1,5 days and your new site is up.
But... Let's assume that you signed up for a dedicated server, you only have one IP, and there are no DNS numbers to be given by the dedicated server company, as the company refuses it. What to do then?
(I assume here that Godaddy will not accept the IP of my server as nameservers, or will it?)

If you can get 2 IPs from your provider, you can create your own DNS on your ded. Which provider and control panel (if you are using one) do you have?

This is written for the InterWorx control panel, but the principles are the same with Plesk, cPanel, or whatever. The InterWorx people thought enough of it to put it on their site as well (with my permission, of course) so it must be good.
Good Luck!

Well, there are some 2 or 3 choices for me as the dedicated server providers. I think I will sign up with ValueWeb starter cause both the bandwidth and price looks OK.
The control panel will be Ensim Basic.
I will write them for the number of IP's and will write it here.

You don't need two IP's for two name servers if they are on the sam box. I've had a site up since February using the congiguration in the helper doc I pointed you to (two name servers on a single IP on a single box) with no adverse effects.

if your domain is with godaddy then you can just use godaddy DNS.
and register your name servers to godaddy name servers IP or use a CNAME on the same name servers of godaddy.
then in A record and MX record point them to your server single IP that will do the trick for you when you have 1 IP only and you have a VPS or your server is in Hong Kong :)
