View Full Version : How does billing work for RackShack?

My friend ordered a server, and still waiting confirmation. It has been past 48 hours (I am not sure about this) and it shows up on his credit card as amount pending, and still hasn't gone through.

My question is, that the "Pending Transactions" will they continue on until RackShack confirms the order? And if RackShack never confirms the order, would thr transaction be canceled and never be charged?

I mean, I never seen a merchant do this.

Merchant checks credit card see if it ok.
Then company does the go ahead if money should be transacted.

Is there such a thing?

It's done all the time, it's called a "pre authorization" the amount. I just have never heard of it showing up on a credit card statement.

Basically the money is on hold, and can't be spent on anything else. Usually the merchant has 3 days to do a "post authorization" where the money will then actually be deducted.

If it's not done within those three days, then the merchant will usually have to pay another transaction fee, and the money will be available to the card holder again after about 5-7 days.

Hotels do this a lot, and so do we. We preauthorize your card before we spend any time on setting up your account. Once you have your set up letter in hand, we do the post authorization.

Of course I'm only guessing that's what rackshack does.

But is this why the credit card says, Pending Transactions = ***
?

Yes - my credit card does that too. The day after I order usually I see a temporary authorization, and then a day or two later when the item ships it becomes a charge. This is also handy to prevent credit card fraud if you watch your statements online.

My credit cards show the same so no worries:)
As for the delay then I would bear in mind that it is the New Year holday period so things may happen a little slower :)

Ohh, well then I sure hope the transaction doesn't go through. My friend didn't get the box, and well he e-mailed the credit card just in case the order doesn't go through.

If your friend ordered the server, I'd first call Rackshack to cancel the order. Not sure what their policy is on that, but once you type in those numbers and hit submit, the process is rolling...
