HELP!

OK< the problem:

recently i got a new keyboard and mouse< and this only happened after i installed both of these so i am sure it is something to do with these two things< without a doubt

i can"t figure out which is the problem _ but after the problem surfaced i uninstalled both the mouse software and the keyboard software

i reverted back to the old mouse (new one *was* a micro inovations optical sroll mouse) and keyboard is a microsoft internet keyboard pro with two USB ports

after a short while (sometimes it takes a bit) _ things go nuts and this doesn"t happen straight away it takes some time and then all of a sudden bingo _ this happens:

----------

OK, this is REALLY annoying as it just fixed itself without me doing anything! ARRRRRGH! Well, this is what happens...

Things like caps lock becomes backwards or messed up. Caps lock becomes always on, even when it isn't. Meaning I can't type periods or the number '2' I have to spell out two. Instead of '2' I'd get '@'. Pressing caps lock gets me small case letters but still no periods.

Also, when I go to select things, 1/2 the screen is selected. I can't highlight one part, one click highlights random parts of the screen. Makes it impossible to click on desktop icons as it tries to open up a dozen or so programs at once.

Also, clicking on any link opens everything in a new window (really annoying), every time.

Now, this is the first time it has mysteriously gone away, and I didn't realize it would or could go away (was about 2 minutes of hell). It also took a verrrrrry long time for it to happen this time, which is annoying as I never know when it is coming, then suddenly everything is screwed up, scroll wheel doesn't scroll on mouse either, it changes pages back and forward).

I'm going to switch back to the old keyboard, but I get the bad feeling this problem isn't going to go away.

I've removed the software for both, as I said, so I don't know what else to do, but hope that reverting back to the old keyboard just makes this go away.

If it doesn't what else can I do?

And does anyone else have this problem with these mice/keyboards?

An clues, hints, tricks, tips to save me from going insane???

Let us know what happens when you change the keyboard? :)

Just to clarify, new mouse is a Micro Inovations Optical Scroll Mouse and new keyboard is a Microsof Internet Keyboard Pro with two USB ports. OS is Win2k server ed. and computer is a gateway, no problems before this. ALl new software is uninstalled, old gateway mouse back, but I still have the new MS keyboard hooked up, though I'm about to remove it and reboot.

Computers are weird huh?

I don't know if this is normal. But my computer only powers down if you hold the button for 10 seconds. If you press it and let go before 10 seconds, my mouse goes nuts, the pointer flys around the screen clicking things. You can't gain control unless you press the power button again.

Now *that* is odd. So far with old keyboard, nothing yet, but I think it is coming... as I said, it isn't something that happens from the get go, it creeps and attacks me. This is sort of like when you bring the car to the shop complaining that it *was* making a funny noise... *&^((&($)$* car behaves when it is at the garage of course.

We'll see... *waits for the attack*

Chicken,

Try returning the keyboard, it sounds like its been dropped...

As The Prohacker eluded to; it really sounds like defective equipment.
It does happen on occasion to purchase something new that doesn't work.
I'm sure we would have a long thread sharing those types of stories.

i faced similar situation when i use to sale computers years ago.

here is what may be wrong,

1. check for the irq settings are not conflicting with any hardware
2. check for virus
3. hmmm never seen keyboard with USB ports so no idea about that.
4. if you are running old OS then you may need to update some DLLs and apply patches from microsoft. (lots of bugs in MS OS)

Also, clicking on any link opens everything in a new window (really annoying), every time.
---------------

there are chances there is problem with the soft counductor between keys and circuit in your key board in that case this is manufactring fault since this is new keyboard.

hmm, that's it all i know.

Chicken an honest advise.. Why not change the OS. Win can always be a major pain.
These are the times when you should consider shifting to the Wonderful world of Linux.... :)

On the other hand. Try removing the software and let the OS auto detect. After all Win is a Plug and pray OS :)

Have a great day :)

Sounds, as others have suggested, more like a keyboard hardware problem than software. Basically like your shift key is staying "activated." That'd mean a click on a hyperlink becomes a shift-click and opens a new window, and other symptoms like "@" instead of "2", etc.

Now that you've mentioned it (something I didn't realize before), everything is related to shift...

the upper case problem (obviously heh), the select all, the weird select problem, the scrolling problem, links, etc. That's it... my I thought I was going nuts!

So far, the old keyboard is a-ok and I'll take the new one back. This was the last one they had (it was on sale and I got the lucky one I suppose!), or just save myself a few bucks and use the onld one.

Thankx for the trouble shooting help...
