The Prohacker 01-01-2002, 10:32 PM I would suggest either XMB (http://www.xmbforums.com) or OpenBB (http://www.openbb.net)....
I haven't used OpenBB, but from the demo's the templates are easy to edit.. But i have used XMB, and it works very well.....
ffeingol 01-01-2002, 10:40 PM Try the search (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php?s=) button above. This has been discussed a dozen times.
I would recommend you check out phpBB (http://www.phpbb.com/).

DigitalXWeb 01-01-2002, 11:42 PM I would recommend openBB or phpBB. XMB is fairly new but looks good also, i have no experience with using it though.
tuffy 01-01-2002, 11:59 PM You may want to check out ikonboard.com. Another one that comes to mind is phorum.org.

The Prohacker 01-02-2002, 12:06 AM One question... Why is this in the Biz forum???? :D

CmptrWz 01-02-2002, 01:02 AM I personally like YaBB....

IGobyTerry 01-02-2002, 01:09 AM I've heard that YaBB is a resource hog, and when I tried to install it on my computer I had many problems. Then again I only tried for 5 minutes. I've used OpenBB on my website, however last week the database self destructed so I just installed XMB since it came with Cpanel and haven't had any problems, but it's not like I get all these visitors to cause a ton of stress on it.
TimPD 01-02-2002, 03:03 AM I say VBulletin or XMB.
madmatty 01-02-2002, 03:06 AM After looking at nearly every BB there is I would have to say phpbb2 is the best. http://area51.phpbb.com

LastActionHero 01-02-2002, 07:30 AM I would recommend Burning Board (wBB). Get it from www.woltlab.com/en/news.php. It's free, easy to install, lot's of features, good admin panel and extensive customisation options.
phpBB2 should be released soon according to its developers. I'm using one of their pre-release builds and it rocks! :)
Check out the latest news on it at phpbb.sourceforge.net (http://phpbb.sourceforge.net)
bobcares 01-02-2002, 10:38 AM Burning board is a lovely alternative... :)
I really like its ease of installation and it's really feature rich... :)
Have a great day :)

El Nino 01-02-2002, 01:04 PM I think phpBB2 is going to give VB some good competition once the final release is out. phpBB2 RC-2 was just released today and more info can be found here (http://phpbb.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4388)
SimonMc 01-02-2002, 02:22 PM I have used Ikonboard in the past...they have just released a new version as well. Worth considering.
sitecreator 01-06-2002, 09:36 PM Thanks Guys, I finally got YaBB it is easy to install, customise and administer also it doesn't require any dbase att-all I am really happy with it.
you can see it Live here: http://www.timnetprovider.net/cgi-bin/yabb01/YaBB.cgi
Ectoman 01-06-2002, 09:52 PM This is a tad late as you have already chosen.. but I've used YaBB, Ikonboard and phpBB... and I think phpBB is defiantly the best.. easily customizable.. (I don't even have a forum.. I just customize it.. it is fun..) it is great if you don't know PHP, it will teach you.. :) and if you want to create a portal, it is easy.. there are some modded versions out there to download..
mantra 01-06-2002, 10:48 PM I was deciding which software to go with.
Finally, I decided on Burning Board, since I heard so much good stuff about it.
