Hello,
I read a lot of programming books in my spare time and I was looking at learning some ColdFusion.
But I was looking for some opinions on the language. From my friends who work at a local programming firm that's all they use, no php, no perl, just ColdFusion and the work they do is great. (http://www.fcsatlantic.com if you want to check them out)
I was leaning towards PHP or ColdFusion but it seems like everyone uses PHP so I was going to go that way. Anyone wanna state anythign about their experience with ColdFusion? Thanks,
Rewdog

ColdFusion costs money to host. PHP is free. Thats why more people use php, and more people will be able to help you out since your just starting out.
I don't know a lot about coldfusion, but php is a solid language, and you can do pretty much whatever you want.
Aloha
worked with it for a few years on a huge project
I was more of the front end guy but it is pretty cool
check out http://www.fusebox.org for a cool methodology to use with it
the main reason is it costs some $$ and PHP is free so that is most likely why most will say go with PHP
I would say get the dev version or something and try it out
I am planning on doing more with it later ??

Okay money set aside, how would you rate the power of the language if that's possible. For example I enjoy C++ because it is great for OOP. How do ColdFusion and PHP compare to each other? Thanks,

PHP is a web programming language. ColdFusion is becoming more and more than just that. For example: ColdFusion has a search engine. However the language itself is no better than PHP.
PHP also has the luxury as an opensource software, so it is essentially from the users for the users. You get all the feature needed by common users. Not to mention it is also free.
