There are many ways.

You can either go with Adnetworks, buy ad space on websites or simply list on search engines.
Lastly there is also the offline way of doing things in newspapers, Mags, and even by word of mouth :)

Like clasione said, better to optimize your site so you get higher rankings in Google. Higher rankings give you hits which in turn can bring you sales.

This is an interesting forum

Two options:

1 - You need to either do extensive research on seo and update your work yourself.

2 - hire an experienced seo consultant to assist you in seo..

or

3 - hire an experienced seo consultant to do the work for you....

Those are your best and just about only options unless you go ppc or general advertising.

You could list your host in directories, such as:

http://www.tophosts.com
http://www.thewhir.com
http://www.hostindex.com
http://www.hostreview.com
http://www.websitehostdirectory.com
http://www.foundhost.com
http://www.findmyhosting.com
http://www.findmyhost.com
http://www.cheaphostingdirectory.com
http://www.hostsearch.com
http://www.webhostdir.com

Not sure about SEO though. What would you optimize for, "webhosting"? Or optimize for the company name? Just wondering.

A bit off topic, but that music on your site drives me nuts.

Also off topic, but related.

"Unix/Linux Servers"

You have pictures of SunFire servers on your site. Are you running solaris or linux? This too may ward off potential clients as your site contradicts itself.

There's always ppc search engines such as,

http://www.kanoodle.com/
http://www.goclick.com/

Keep in mind, that the return on your investment depends on how much you're willing to put in. $50 will probably not get you much, while $5,000 actually has potential of yielding a return.

There are many great ways of letting people know that you are out there. Some of these ways are looking through the forums and seeing what advirtising spaces are for sale at good prices, where you can place you a banner on. I am not sure if they have forums like that here or not, I havn't looked, but I know on HostHideout they have em'. You can TRY OUT Google Adwords, although I wouldn't suggest it, as I have had so sales from it. Also, every designer needs a website, so get involved with designing forums and advirtise your services (if acceptable)

Good luck!

Actually I think #1 you have to get your site working. Most of the links from your tool bars do not work.

You do not want to be submitting your site to engines etc only to have them dump you for a lot of dead links.

Just my 2c worth.

Except Kanoodle and GoClick suck. Try searchfeed.com, overture.com, 7search.com and bidclix.com (along with google).

What about buying targeted traffic ?
Do you think those work at all ?

clasione

What means of buying?

datapimp

these suggestions are all fine, but a little dull. try this:

*** get a sandwich board made up with your URL in big bold letters and walk back and forth in front of the courthouse where the michael jackson/scott peterson/kobe bryant trial is taking place while screaming disjointed quasi-biblical nonsense into a bullhorn. get in as many tv news shots as you can. don't clown around behind the reporter though, or no one will take you seriously.

*** become really famous for something else, then pimp your hosting company on Leno and Conan.

*** sell your company to Google.

*** two words: attempted assassination.

that's all i have right now, but when this bottle of wine is empty i may have a few more...

The consensus in the following thread seems to be that targeted traffic succeeds only for bargain-basement hosts.

There are lots of threads here about advertising, also look in the how-to subforum.

Hi,

I advertised on KaNoodle about 9 or 12 months ago. All keywords were placed within the top 5.

The hits are amazing. The first $200 burned within 10 hours. I tried again one month later, another $200 also burned within 10 hours.

I got a few thousands of hit.......... Good news?? .... But ALL hits get not a single sign up, I am afraid.

I spent quite a lot money on advertising my business over the past few years. However, it seems doesn't help much. Most sign up are come from existing customers and their friends.

This is a real headache how to expand business by advertising.

That's exactly what everyone says about Kanoodle. Don't give up on PPC advertising entirely because of them.

I dont think you should forget about your local area as well.

Internet marketing is great. But there is a lot of competition when you hit the web. There is a lot of business to be had in your local city.

Try getting involved in local networking groups. Get word of mouth within your local city. Try getting involved with local Small Business Groups as well. These are great places to meet people who have a ton of connections and can spread word about your company (new ones for sure) very fast.

A business card can mean a lot when its a web hosting company, and you meet people in person.

Get some t-shirts or fun stickers made. There is a ton of marketing that can be done in your local area. Don't be so quick to only think you can get business from the web.

I don't thing "automative promotion" brings you thousands of clients. It is carefully work and you have thing about each customer. Don't wait for many clients from the start, just offer good quality support, and new will cometo you themselver :)
