View Full Version : stdhost.com, To work on it ! or Not to work on it !
TechiBoy 01-01-2002, 11:50 AM Hello
A friend of mine has given a domain name (sthost.com) to me for free.
It is a small and good looking domain name. He claimed that it can be an abbreviation of "Standard Host" and had registered it for two years to start a hosting business on it.
Anyway would you want to start a website on it or prefer not to use it?
I will appereciate any comments.

HostInspect 01-01-2002, 12:34 PM Take a chance and use it :)
Buisness is always risky.

Techi, note that there is a site standardhost.com so no matter what your friend told you, I'd stay away from that association.
TimPD 01-01-2002, 11:20 PM Yes I would to. Make up something else that does with it, or just use that the domain is as the hosting name there is alot of companies that do that. I would give it a go!.

Per title, is it sthost or stdhost???
TechiBoy 01-01-2002, 11:52 PM Chicken,
I am sorry, it is stdhost.com
And a question. Why this thread is moved to related offers and requests?
It is about a domain name and I want to know if it has problem or not ? !!!

Relyc 01-02-2002, 12:06 AM I think the biggest problem is the STD part, 1 in every 10000 people might get to that conclusion before they get to Sexually Transmitted Disease....
I'd find a different name if I were you.
NetXL 01-02-2002, 12:14 AM I'd have to agree. Though, you'd never forget a name like that :D
BravoComm 01-02-2002, 12:17 AM I wouldn't use it either. When this name first started being mentioned here a while back Sexually Transmitted Disease was the first thing that came to my mind and the minds of many others. Starting a business is hard enough without having to jump that hurdle. It seems your friend has figured that out and that is why he is giving the name away (tried to sell it with no takers).
The only way I could see it possibly working is if you made a joke of the "STD" part with your slogan. Even then though I would probably opt for another name.

haha :stickout
STD's aren't really something you joke about. I mean, could you imagine 'You'll never make the same mistake again!' (refering to choosing a bad host, but it's a pun ;) )
TimPD 01-02-2002, 12:28 AM I agree on that. I don't think I would use it.

Good Point. :)

Actually, that was due to your typo. I went to sthost, saw that it was a live domain and moved it here. Wasn't the right domain and it is back now. Sorry for the confusion.
Revelation 01-02-2002, 01:05 AM and a hosting company, I would never go back! That name will stick in people's minds for days :D I say, go for it! Have somebody draw you up pictures of stds for layout ;) (cartoon stds would be better). Have fun with that site, might as well become a resseler at the least! :stickout
tommatthews 01-02-2002, 09:52 AM Domains are only $9 but to have to change your business name at a later date will cost you much more!
