If your looking for a good host, dont ever sign up with any hosting company that signs up here. If they are here then they are worried becuz they cant provide good host.

What you do is find some mid size .com sites and check who they hosted with...

This is the best source.

thats my 2cents.

And how did you come to this conclusion?

There are some quite large companies that post here, most companies that post here are quite reputable too. I see it as hosts keeping in tune with the market, and knowing what you want. Reps from Verio and Sprint have been in here, wow, they posted here, better not go with them!

different people have different needs. I have many domains which receive less than 100MB transfer in total per month, why do I need a host that hosts mid sized .com?

I think many host owners and operators who post here are providing helpful information for each other and their plans surely meet all my needs.

I have just one question.
Being mid size or small or for that matter even a tiny reseller does not make them bad. Everybody starts small.
Also the mid sized guys make more profits than the big one who just expect to make profits in the next quater everytime...
I have seen many hosts here which are very good and dedicated to the work they do...

Have a great day :)

amar

Hrm... Very strange VINH
I have never heard of such a thing.

Here is my TWO CENT's as well -- if you don't mind,
since everyone is entitled to an "opinion"

Opinion's are like Armpit's... Everybody has two and they both stink.

I think I said that right.. Correct me if I am wrong :-)

We are here because there are people looking for hosting.

I don't think that there are any hosting companies signed up here. Maybe individuals that own part of a company, or individuals that work for a hosting company.

Anyway, I signed up to read interesting threads like this, and to talk to my colleagues. :)

whoa whoa whoa...

so let me get this straight...

so all those computer/technology-related companies that show up at computer shows.... we shouldn't trust them cause they are trying to represent their company? companies like ummm... IBM, Microsoft, Nvidia, Logitech, Compaq, Dell, Gateway, Intel, AMD, Creative, Sony, Abit, Asus, IWill, Western Digital, Maxtor, RedHat, etc etc...

wow, so my whole computer isn't trustworthy since it's made with products and services provided by companies that want to represent their products and services?

was this on dateline or 20/20 last night? i must've missed it

edit:
i just realized something... no one from *****.com are involved in this forum (or as far as them admitting their employment with *****)... THEY MUST BE THE BEST HOST EVER!!!! *jumping up and down*

Having had a look at Vinh's personal site - http://vinh.netjunk.org/main.php I find this quote "I'am a mod at a big tech forum site so iam always there to help people and enjoy knowledge + learn some ;)"

Perhaps Vinh thinks his forum is better than this one, hence his post.

Hey Vinh, why don't you go and f*ck yourself di*khead

Anatole: what does my forum have to do with my conclusion?
I have a personal site, simple.

Who said you cant host on the same box as a mid size site?
If you use 100megs transger and the mid site uses 10gb transfer, you would be still on the same box. and there would be other plans too.

Your term "mid size" site is not very clear to me. Is a "mid size" is something between your home page and Yahoo? WHT fits in a mid size class in this case, but I will not host such a site with hundreds of others on a typical PC server. It requires a dedicated box (or better two boxes: Web and SQL). So, most "mid size" sites a dedicated boxes, but in many cases, large data centers who host dedicated servers will not provide virtual hosting directly, they prefer doing it via smaller providers, resellers, etc.

We all know worldcomm hosts millions sites, try calling them and ask for web hosting ;) They will suggest you:

1. Managed Hosting
2. Internet Colocation Services
3. Data Centers

and will not spend much time with your $30/mo deal :)

P.S. Try being polite on this forums, and not act like a 14 y.o.
schoolboy, even if you are ;)

This thread is now locked. I really don't see this thread going anywhere else but further downhill.

I am forced to conclude that this thread was nothing more than trolling material.

Sorry, this is a bit unfair as I can post even though the thread is locked. I thought I'd just mention that before I found this forum (I am a member after all), I signed up with:

1st host: poor email support, lack of server security
2nd host: scam
3rd host: poor all around everything
4th host: poor network

Since coming here I've found 2 of the best hosts I could have hoped to ever possibly find. Maybe I was a bit lucky, and you obviously take your chances a bit when signing up with anyone, but this has been my experience. Your mileage will vary, of course.

Take your time, don't rush, read the comments of others, read clsoely what they say and take note of the small little things which make hosts stand out from one another. That's what I did and so far it has worked.
