After reading this article I found on my desk, about Apples CEO Steve Jobs only making $1 a year since 1999 took his $1 /yearly salary again for this year.

Then the next colum I see that the most Apple has payed to a CEP was $660,414 in 2000, to a guy named "Anderson."

I have seen a 16 year old 'earned' much more money than that. To these CEOs get payed enough, or is it just Apple? I always thought they made about 1-2 million a year.

If I'm not mistaken, it is Jobs himself who cut his own salary to $1 per year. He did this to give Apple some much needed cash.

Of course almost all big company CEO earns much much more than that. :)

Yeah, didn't the CEO cut it to $1/year because before that he was making something like $4 million a year, which was not fair since they were sacking a lot of employees, when that $4mill/year can cover a lot of those employees.

Btw, where did you read that story about Apple's CEO cutting to $1/year??

even if a CEO takes $1 a year salary they still get much more, company car, company holidays, infact you just put the word "company" in front of just about anything and bill it to the company.

Its one of those tax breaks to stop the government taxing you to high heaven.

On the other hand if you get paid $4 million one year then you are hardly going to be needing much money for the next few years are you ??

Wanna see how much Steve Jobs really got in 2001? Take a look here (http://us.biz.yahoo.com/p/a/aapl.html)... It shows total compensation (including bonus, stock options, etc.), not just salary. $84 million is a lot more than $1. :)

But his point in taking a $1 salary was that he's not going to sit around doing nothing; the other parts of his compensation are based on performance, so the harder and better he works the more he will earn.

I think that a lot of CEO's probably earn a majority of their income through investments they've made over the years, and don't even really need to work for a salary anyway.

Think "independently wealthy".

They just work to earn even "more" money and because it interests them.

At least it was this way for a lot of the sales people and coporate officers at the last real company that I worked for.

$1 is his salary. But his actual earnings are based on what are called as "stock options" which are directly tied to the company's performance. So, if the stock price of the company goes up which may be due to the fact the company is doing well and may be because the CEO is doing a good job, then the stock options are worth much more than any salary. This is good in a way because CEO and the management has an incentive to perform at their best because that how they are compensated. Of course, along with stock options they will have other entitlements such as bonusus and perks.

So, don't worry - I think jobs with his $1 salary can still pay his bills and I am sure is appropriately compensated or else he would be running some other company.

The new mayor of New York, Bloomberg, only took a 19K sal. job.

Also, a main reason why high income bracket people take lower salaries is due to taxation. It is actually possible that if you earn $1 million a year, you can earn LESS than earning $500,000 a year depending upon your tax status and rates.

Steve Jobs, made his money already and did apple a favor when they hired him BACK. Remember, steve left the company for a few years, as they went in a new direction. Steve gets PLENTY of other perks, (he has his own airplane, apple pays for his house, living expenses, ect.)...the $1 is mainly for tax purposes.

I want to take some credit too :). There were times when my salary is much lower than my staffs. We, like everybody else, were hit by a major economic crisis.

As explained previously, with stock options. Besides, for guys like BG, who has all the money "it's not about the money"

That site is the one that showed how much Steve Jobs actually maked, including stock options and such. On that site it says Steve Jobs's total income is more than Bill Gates's.
