I can't seem to find mention on their site of what means RackShack uses to determine bandwidth usage... is the 300 GB determined using the 95th percentile method, or ???

JDF 12-31-2001, 11:14 PM I'm pretty sure it's 95th percentile... can't remember where I seen it though. Nevermind that ^^, I just went in the chat room and asked, it's actual! :o scott2 12-31-2001, 11:22 PM Ah thanks! That seems like a huge advantage over the other $100 deals which are 300 GB at 95th percentile or 100 GB actual! thednt 01-01-2002, 03:04 PM Somebody please explain to mr thicky here what the difference is? Thanks Chicken 01-01-2002, 10:30 PM 95 Percentile: you are billed at the highest speed you needed that month, minus the top 5% for the whole month. Actual: you are billed for the actual amount of data moved, regardless of peaks, etc. Data transfer has two factors. One, how much is moved (ie: how many GB's a month are moved), the other is how much moves during a certain period. If your site runs an ad and you suddenly move 50 GB's of data in one day (and none for the remainder of the month), your provider has to have the pipe to handle that, as opposed to someone who uses 50 GB spread out evenly, little by little, every day, all month long. |
