My question to you all is:

Are you hosting in Europe, if yes do you have servers there or just keep servers in USA or whatever country you live in?

I'm a UK-based host, although my server is also located in the US. :)

I am based in the UK and my servers are based-......in the UK!!!
It means I can easily get down to the datacentre if anything goes wrong (which it never does):)

First 2 guys:

It may be true that US offers more variety and more space and whatever for a lower price but the downloading difference decreases a lot as well, If I were to download from a NL server (as I am located in NL) I would get a download speed up to like 700kbps and if I download from something like download.com it would only go 100kbps, this all has to do with the networks but here in the Netherlands all networks have like a minimum of 3000 Mbit Peering

To the last guy, ok I wanted to know this are you planning on buying servers else where and like hire people in those places to watch your servers ?

When you say elsewhere do you mean abroad?

If so, no.

Otherwise -
I am going to behiring technicians to keep a wathcful eye over the servers in the UK-based datacenter.

Well the download speed is still maxing out my adsl connection, it true that the latency is a bit worse but that doesn't matter much to me as long as its only webhosting.

It depends on the price difference. As long as its a hobby website I don't have ant problems with a little less latency. Its not really feelable.

I would not host a game server or the like in the USA.

Although being a British company based in France, all servers are located in the U.S. - Why? Because prices are cheaper, meaning I'm able to offer cheap prices to my clients.

Many people choose to have their servers based in the U.S. so they can have a higher profit margin... well, I personally don't believe in that. Since my costs are lower, my clients' costs are lower.

Will I ever have servers based in the U.K.? Most probably. However I won't be offering the same price as I do currently. The reason being, the server will most likely (more probably really) cost me more, and therefore I won't be able to offer them the same discount price.

What about having servers located in France? Very unlikely - Most likely no.

I'd much rather have my servers in either the U.S. or the U.K. - Don't know why really, would just be happier that way.

OK I understand about the prices and stuff, but what about the datacenters if anything would go wrong you wouldn't be able to just drive to the USA and a Technician is a high price to pay what would you do?

People pay set prices for managed servers. A good managed server will be fixed by the time we pick up the phone to the US.

My servers or VDSs are based in the US and on the rare occasion the server(s) have gone down, a techie is paged and he is on the case right away and believe me, it's always sorted real quick.

Also, because I sell VDS / VPS, they tend to shut down when a site is not visited and spring back to life when it is. So at least with Sphera name based VDS, it really doesn't matter if it's in the UK or in the US. 4 seconds rather than 3 to respond? Big deal!
