What is your pick?

I think it depends on what "the best" means to you and your situation.. if that be Dedicated servers, virtual hosting, reselling, etc..

Welcome to the board.

You should do a search on the board for more information.

There is no "best" hosting company. Just search the forum and read a few previous threads, and you will see why.

(By the way, looking at the poll choices, is this a joke?)

   If you look at the choices, they're all companies with poor reputations. Either the poll starter is completely ignorant with regards to the general reputations of hosting companies, or it's a joke (I'm pretty sure it's a joke).

Personal opinion here...

I'll have to pass on this vote too because there are much better choices that could have been posted.

Anyone think that "MyRuns" might be HOSturbo? Look at some of the hosts he has up there, including hosturbo, and "icantbelieveithostingcorporation.com ...

He/she meant the "worst" hosting.

I voted for *****. Their customer service is so amazingly good, you will never have to read the replies to your trouble tickets because they will NEVER reply to them. This is great if you can not read anyway!

Also their servers run so quickly that your web site won't even come up half the time. Again this is a good feature because it will stop your site from having too many visitors.

I don't know, it's a pretty tight run between Geocities and *****. After all, Geocities is actually UP provided you aren't under the bandwidth cap. ***** triple-charges for anything over the Geocities cap.

...it's soooo hard to pick. :)

Excellent poll. Thanks for the laugh. :D

I guess you have to define your needs first. Then take the best that satisfies your criteron.
Have a great day :)

Yeah, this was a joke... my god webhosting.com is horrible, geocities is free, hostturbo.com is dead or something, *****.com is the worst host ever (i had them for a few months!!!!!) and that one long one if also a joke.

Someone should start a REAL poll and then we'll find out what is the closest to the best host (all around)

http://geocities.yahoo.com/ps/info/compare.html

Geocities has paid accounts now (as does angelfire and tripod btw) and you're basically paying to remove the banners and add more HD space and have a small handful of goodies like domain hosting, subdomains, more html templates and/or what not.

Though, still wouldn't recommend them. I'm on the Pro plan and for $9/month...

no custom error pages -- unless you upgrade to the Webmaster plan -- I kinda understand upgrading to the Webmaster plan to get password protected directories, but how painful could it be to let account holders set up their own error pages?
no server side includes (SSIs) -- I got an e-mail that Geocities is debating whether to add this feature.
no cgi bin of your own -- you gotta use Geocities' scripts and the guestbook script still puts those ad banners on the page
users must have a yahoo mail account to take advantage of the e-mail boxes you set up for them (and if they want to check their e-mail through their own e-mail client -- like Eudora or MS Outlook -- they gotta check yes to an option that gives Yahoo permission to spam them with special offers -- and there's no way to get rid of the ads in yahoo mail without upgrading to a paid account)
and lots of times when a major virus outbreak happens, yahoo either slows down significantly or shuts down

Ugh. Overall not the good deal like Aletia or Palmversa or Your-Site, one of whom I'll switch to when I'm all finished creating with my (bigger) portfolio site. Though it serves me right for not shopping around.

No, that's not a very good deal. There are many reputable web hosts that offer all that stuff for the same price, and don't have flaky speed.

:uhh: heh.

You might want to read the whole thread;

this whole topic is a joke: all the choices are bad hosts.
