Hello!
Again a Prosperous New Year!
If you are a reseller of a "bigger" host, how do you answer these questions from a client:
1. "Where is your server located?"
2. " What is your server specification?"
Do you really pretend that you are an independent host and project the image that you do have your own server? Or do you admit that you are a reseller and simply answer their questions basing from the data of the mother host? How exactly do you approach this?
Thanks.
:)

I'm not yet an reseller, but I plan to be...
I'd say (or except as a customer) that you said something like "we use PIII servers blablblabla" located in datacenter of "the company where you host".
You may mentoin that you resell for that company, but personally, as a customer I don't except a host to say it.

Be sure you know this info, (ie: don't make it up):
1. XYZ Datacentre
2. PIII833 running at least 512MB RAM with 18GB SCSI HD's

Wherever you host you should gather good basic information and post it on your site. This information should describe the Network Operations Center completely including connectivity, carriers, security, hours. Also, you should know the minimum level of hardware you are hosting on. However, none of this commits you to using the dreaded word, "reseller." Why? Because you are the host...plain, simple. The fact that you use someone else's resources...lease web space, bandwidth, contract tech support is not the issue.
That said, you are responsible for the service you provide. If it is good, you deserve the credit for making wise choices. If it is poor, you cannot use your provider as an excuse. You selected. You contracted with your customer. Few customers care about your suppliers...it is you they want to know about and you they look to for support.
As to where do you host....Our Network Operations Center is in Dodge City, Kansas with OC 48 connectivity to Level 3, Genuity, Verio, and Cogent is a perfect answer (of course substituting the facts).
However, if asked directly if you resell for another host, do not lie. An answer like this may suffice--we do colocate with another host in order to gain the benefits of combined size and provide the levels of service we provide.
