http://xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx/uptime.txt returned "success".

It was last reached by Uptime at 2000-09-30 05:27:53 (Eastern Time (New York)).
Currently our Oracle database thinks it is 2000-09-30 11:24:20.
In other words, your server has been unreachable for approximately
356 minutes.

Xeran / 00host has a lot of downtime and they don't send warnings to users (for server upgrades, etc). Downtime and no comments. I get lots of warnings from that MIT uptime monitor. I'm sure most users at xeran are not aware of this problem.

This was the big one: 356 minutes = 5.9h :kaioken:

I think I'm hosted on an overcrowded server, perhaps >500 sites on that P2-400. Tech support is ok but I get replies in 10-12 hours... I expected 3 or 4 hours (business days). They give only 300 megs for $18.95/mo (setup $31, ouch), and "unmetered bandwidth" (i.e. around 6GB/mo max). I need more space, more bandwidth/mo, telnet (they don't provide shell access), PHP4 (they still have PHP3), mailing lists (they don't give that), and a better control pannel (horrible CP, they should work more on the CP... it's really amateurish, my site stats never worked, I have to download the raw files and analyze them offline). They only allow 1 domain per account (too bad), and $19 per subdomain (0 subdomains when you sign-up)

They have a strange sendmail configuration, some CGI mailouts are lost in cyberspace. If you have retail CGIs and you want to get correct mailouts, you have to modify the sendmail subroutine in all your .cgi files, otherwise all your emails are "From: Xeran Virtual Server Account"
:kaioken: I asked about this and they said they were not aware of the problem(???).

They don't allow wilcards and they will NOT install them for you. $19 per subdomain, that's all :kaioken:

I'm sorry, I think it was a good host but I will cancel my account. I have found 3 good hosts with lower prices, telnet access, over 300 megs, 8GB/mo, etc. I will monitor these hosts and I will choose on December.

If you need good uptime, forget xeran.

Well, doing a simple search on this site will give you quickly a list of good & recommended hosts. That can help you get back on your feet quickly and hit your current host where it hurts... their wallet ;)

Don't sign-up with xeran, they have a lot of downtime :(

Their site is down (now) :(

I am hosted at xeran and I would like to move to another host but I CAN'T because I have over 250MB hosted there and lots of hard-coded complex cgi's (hard-coded to xeran redhat paths and stuff)

Gee, I can't download and then re-upload 250MB+

My mysql database is around 70MB :O

I don't know what's the problem with those guys... they are not reselling, they have their own servers.

Heck, they should move their servers to vdi, catalog, wherever!

I am currently working on registering complaints about Xeran/MonsterDNS (same company) with the Better Business Bureau, South Carolina Attorney General, and other consumer agencies. Anyone who wishes to participate in my filing of complaints is invited to contact me at info@astralmatrix.net.

In short: Xeran changed my main account password without telling me and I was unable to log into my control panel and email for several days. I submitted over 6 inquiries to the tech support department over the course of that time and received no responses. I cancelled that account with them as soon as I learned what had happened (I had to call their tech support line 3 times to find out that my password had been changed).

I had over $60 in referral commissions waiting to be paid to me for people I had referred to Xeran - I never received my money, and Xeran closed their referral program December 8. If you were part of the referral program and never received your money, PLEASE email me.

I requested that MonsterDNS cancel one of my two accounts, and they cancelled BOTH of my remaining accounts. They did not reinstate the account they accidentally deleted, and I received no apology. Here is the email reply that I got to my 2nd tech support inquiry, which was sent through their "resolve your issue that's over 24 hours old" department:

Dear Desirae,
When we saw this email message from you;

"[Dec 27, 2003 10:36:26 PM]

Q: If you look under my name, Desirae Beberniss, you'll see that I have
two accounts that are still open under MonsterDNS's servers:

jackson500 (500jackson.com)
sehdesigns (shawnehalldesigns.com)

I don't know why you are having trouble finding my accounts. You guys
had this problem when I wanted to delete my astralmatrix.net account.
You really need to get your software or something working right.

My control panel loging is jackson500 and password is ******. My FTP
login is jackson5, password is *******. I want this account closed
immediately."

We canceled the two listed accounts.
Sincerely,
Ned
Best Regards,
Monster Support

I had registered the domain name (shawnehalldesigns.com) for the account that they "accidentally" deleted through MonsterDNS, which is a reseller for eNom, Inc. After 2 emails to MonsterDNS requesting that they edit my DNS information to point to the hosting account that I opened with another company, I have received no response and the changes have not been made yet. It's been 2 days. I am going to register a complaint with eNom, Inc. if I do not hear from MonsterDNS by tomorrow.
