View Full Version : Registering Nameservers?

Not sure if I am posting in the right forum but here we go.

I have these two nameservers ns1.mdnhw.co.uk AND ns2.mdnhw.co.uk. I have my domains with 123-reg.co.uk I have MDNHW.CO.UK obviously pointing to these DNS, and CNHW.CO.UK points there too. I have now tried to point a furthur .com domain to the servers. I now receive this error:

"Error text: Command failed: unable to verify existence of nameserver ns1.mdnhw.co.uk"

I informed 123reg and they replied saying:

"Hi,

Thanks for the email.

That message means you need to register your nameservers. You can do this
using the host registration form at http://www.netsol.com/

I hope this helps."

Does anyone have any ideas to this? I am not sure too much what they meant. Bearing in mind i have other domains pointing towards my nameservers.

Thanks

What registrar did you use for the .com domain name?

Go to that registrar and register your name server with them.

If you used netsol.com to register your .com name, then yes, you will need to register your nameserver with netsol.com.

Just ask if you need any more help..

http://www.netsol.com/cgi-bin/makechanges/itts/host

Is the URL but it seems to be a bit more complicated that it used to be. I'm not sure if you need to have the host handle info or if you can create it without one. The forms were annoying, but at least we all figured out how to use them. They've changed the site since.

Well thats the thing.

All of my domains including the new one have been registered with 123-reg.co.uk as well as the domain which has the nameservers. They then said that error meant i had to signup to somthing with netsol (who i have never used in my life)

Do you have to 'register' nameservers with netsol? Whoever ur registrar is?

Usually, when you sign up with a registrar, you can register your nameservers through them along with your domain names... I think its weird that 123 tells you to go to netsol.com to register them.. I use Godaddy.com and in their control panel, there is even an option to register a nameserver.. you don't have to mess around with netsol or anyone else..

You could go ahead and register the nameserver at the link Chicken gave.. it wouldn't hurt anything and doesn't cost anything. Just type in the nameserver (ns1.mdnhw.co.uk) and the correct IP address of the nameserver. Do this also for ns2.mdnhw.co.uk
Once you receive a reply it will take 24-48 hours to propagate..
I would also ask 123 for more info on WHY you have to go to netsol.com and why can't they do it..

Well that is the thing. I have already configured the nameservers. They are all working fine. I am merely trying to change the nameservers which my domain points to to the mdnhw nameservers. It is merely a coincidence that MDNHW is also registered with 123. I think i will email them.

Afaik, you have to register seperately with netsol. Good luck with getting netsol to register your nameservers - very frustrating.

Hmm. This is very weird. I have no clue that everyone who has there own nameservers has to register with Netsol??

It's weird, when i type in nameservers in the WHOIS nameservers search from a few Hosting companies- I get a not found. I am very confused with what i need to do with Netsol. I have filled out all these different forms on their site but still not sure what i should have done

I had big problems with name servers.

With .co.uk domains it is possible to create what is called a 'glue' record as part of the domain which means you can have name servers which may or may not be attributed to an IP.

These name servers will then only work with UK domains. When you try to attribute a TLD to these name servers you get an error.

This is how many UK resellers can offer personalised name servers for free as they do not need a dedicated IP.

Whoever you got the name servers registered with you may want to check this.

You can as intimated create name servers at NetSol with the IP addresses, it is terribly cumbersome and takes ages (about 4 weeks for mine) It is best if you first create a contact handle which can take a few days. Use the password encryption as it is then easier later on. Once your contact handle has been created create name servers and enter your handle ID, name server and IP again choose password methd as it is loads easier. Do the same for the other name server. However mine did not propogate correctly so NetSol said it would take about 6-8 weeks to sort out while they deleted the records then re-created them.

Insted I then used ukreg.com (reseller of OpenSRS) registered a TLD and then used the create host record form. Took me about 5 minutes then waited 48 hours for propogation and that was it.
