I am getting a dedicated server and I have the option of get the following control panel software; cPanel, Plesk, or Helm.

Which do you suggest?

I am not a reseller and a newbie.

If you're not reselling or a newbie, I guess there's no real need for a CP.

Whatever you do, don't give it a hostname of "life". ;)

cPanel is even easier for a newbie. Although you said you were neither a reseller, nor a newbie. Or your statement should be interpreted in the sense, you are not a reseller, but a newbie in control panels...

You are kind of comparing apples to oranges there - Cpanel is a Linux-only control panel, Plesk has versions for Linux and Windows, and Helm is Windows only. I think it is important to decide what platform you are going to go with (Linux or Windows) before you start thinking about control panels - you are putting the cart before the horse here, and it would probably be to your advantage to to a bit of research before you jump into a dedicated server.

What do you want to host? It there one platform you know better than the other? Do you need features one platform can provide that the other can't (ie ASP)? THese are all questions that you should have asked yourself and already answered before you ever talk about what control panel you wish to use.

With that being said, it doesn't appear that you have a whole lot of experience here - I would say go Plesk - I think it is a bit more secure out of the box than cpanel for linux, and is probably easier to setup that Helm for Windows.
