View Full Version : WHT Radio Station

I just took my *before bedtime* medicine, and I always get the coolest or worst ideas then.

When I was back into gaming, having an internet radio show was the thing.
There were about 20 different announcers who ran a tribes 2 radio show, it was quite addicting to listen to. They would play music, talk about the development of the game, talk strategy, interviews with top people in the game and who developed the game, and most importantly, aired LIVE matches in leaugue gameplay. As many as 600 people got onto the radio station once to listen to some awsome action between my old tribe and the #1 tribe. Anyhow it was extremely popular. Another on of my former clans www.fallen-angels.net runs their own radio station just on a certain day of the month, have an agenda, ect, people could call in, and will air certain important events.

We could do this over a simple shoutcast server. (If someone would like to provide one, you might get donations for it and the announcers could plug ya) where people could tune in using winamp, realmedia, or even windows media player.

Anyhow, how would you like for WHT to have their own internet radio show, maybe every 3rd week? (Would be recorded of course so that people who missed out on the LIVE show could download the mp3.)

What we could have in the show:
-Have a whole agenda, maybe some special parts.
-Web Hosting Company Owner Interview and Spotlight
-Datacenter Spotlight
-People could call in discussing things like advertising opportunities, the term unlimited, cogent,
-Whats going on at WHT
New forums, new layout, new feature
-Suggestions for WHT or the hosting Industry in gereral
-Tips from dektong the all knowing
-Moderator spotline
-Special guest announcers.

Are you interested!?

What we would need:
Sponsor: Sponsor or we could collect donations
Manager: Arranges shows, oversees it
Techie: Gets the server in good condition as well as the software, train the announcers if needed.
Announcers: can have like 10 of these :) They are the broadcasters
And much more! As you can see, I get good ideas but I'm not the best at laying them out at the top, or making sense. Excuse the multiple grammer and spelling mistakes, I'll fix them in the mornin.

I will be glad to be one of any help

Before we know it, the show will be totally corrupt, Rewdog putting in a good word for ***** because they bought him out etc... But you get that :)

Thats a good idea, probably something that will play on my mind tonight (till the drink kicks in).

Just had a look at the Shoutcast streaming server, will install it tomorrow and we can work out schedules etc...

Best make sure I'm allowed the bandwidth first though, lol :)

Yes..this would be great! :)

And actually..voice doesn't take up a lot of bandwidth - I was listening to a radio station online yesterday and it was a steady stream of only 3-4 kb/s - so even dial-up users could handle it.

I have the Shoutcast server fully installed, ready to go, done a few test things look kewl. Our mirror goes live at the start of January once I get blasted qmail installed (so permission forthcoming hopefully) we'll be able to stream from two servers.

Okay now we need station moderators (well managers), tech producers, and most important contributers etc.. :) A radio team... e-mail: radio@webhostingtalk.com

How about every Friday (the end of week) start 14th Jan??? Of course the show will be available for listening from then onwards.

Noooooooooooo problem Matt. I'm extremely glad you want to do it :).

I'd be happy to take any job, don't think I have enough time to do a good job as station manager though :). I'll think about it some :).

Wow, this is the greatest idea since the Host Hideout! That was popular for like... a whole three weeks!

Good evening,

We would be happy to contribute to this venture, our network admin used to work for a local streaming media company that was defunct last year and the guy has extensive knowledge in streaming audio/video.

Matt? Ya alive?

I think that something like this would be cool the first day, but then would just die down. I don't think people would have enough dedication.

Who says?

Advertisers = Money
Money = Dedication.

:D

No, i'm sure people will enjoy running and listening to the show if it's a team effort. I think pretty much all the regulars here would listen, and then the listener base would expand from there.

hehe okay. I see what you mean, we will all need to come up with little jingles for advertising.

The music would have to be good though. But I'd be an announcer - I had 5 years of radio broadcasting/engineering experience before I got into this internet thing.

That would be hard because everyone will like different types.
