Hi
I have VPS with Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server 3 installed - and this system is my problem :( My provider promised, that he will manage updates, but he isn't -> I have to update everything manually. It would be ok, but I can't use redhat network rpm's and up2date tool! In RHEL, to use this tools and resources, I have to give system Product Id (I have to write it to the form on the RedHat Network Page). My provider won't give me this number (becouse in fact it's a serial number). DO you have similar problems with your VPS/ or maybe even with dedicated servers??? What should I do? Is there any alternative to up2date and redhat rmps for RHEL AS 3??? I would like to not switch the host, since I do many configuration changes/ tuning to my server, and my ISP is nice -> the only problem is with this.

THank you,
Bye

probably you got a shared kernel? if your host uses virtuozzo. then you're out of luck.

You could try "um update ; yum upgrade" which might help but I don't know if RHEL ships with that

thx for answers
my isp use virtuozzo
however I don't see any relationship between kernel, up2date and virtuozzo... kernel updating is disabled in up2date by default and I would not change this

you can nott update the kernel and some other stuff.
only your isp can do that.
most likely tere is no need to upgrade for security rerasons, so isp doesnt upgrade

beside that what else did you expected when signing up a 9.99 $ plan with rhe3 ?

when you need a more actual version of an aplication just download the application and install it
