View Full Version : Plesk or Ensim
thednt 12-30-2001, 04:47 PM Anybody prefer Plesk instead of Ensim?
I do realise that there are some similarities between the two (Qmail) but I'd be interested in the feedback of others including long-term users.
Personally, I prefer Plesk over Ensim, but Plesk doesn't appear to have a mailing list manager installed, and Ensim's majordomo can't be configured (AFIAK) via Telnet, like Cobat majordomo can (which is ideal for mod lists).

remarkable 12-30-2001, 07:10 PM Both control panels are very good and both do basically the same thing. You have to choose based on what you want and how you want to do it.
I like Ensim (obvious reasons) but have no problems using or offeirng Plesk to those who want it.
candyapple 12-30-2001, 07:20 PM I'm VERY interested in upgrading to a Dedicated Server very soon. I'm currently a Reseller and would really like to hav emy own server.
BUT...
My budget is in the 100-150 a month price range and I don't think that's going to do much. Think you could make me a deal?
By the way...
The best deal I've seen is (of course) Rackshack but I don't know which control Panel to choose. I'm used to CPanel/WHM and so are my clients. Basically I need something easy.
Would you be interested in making me some sort of deal for my price range?
Thanks!
<<MOD NOTE: Please contact the provider off-board, danke.>>
ASPCode.net 12-31-2001, 11:16 AM Ok, I have no personal experience of etiher Plesk or Ensim ( uses RAQ for my Linux hosting ) however I thought my opinion might be useful anyway:
If I went shopping for a Linux hosting account and found one host offering Plesk and one offering Ensim I would probably choose the Ensim one. I simpy like their interface more. I have tested both demos and must say Plesk is somewhat hard to use/understand.
jolly 12-31-2001, 02:33 PM Ensim is very powerful and easy to operate. It has 3 level control. I guess Ensim new version is coming soon....
Lets wait and see :)

And just to make your decision harder, I'd choose the plesk one :D but I see how users would find Plesk a bit confusing
I too like plesk over ensim. Theres not a whole lot of ferature differances but I really can't stand the ensim colors/ looks and the sales guy I talked to drove me nuts.

Ensim 3.0 has been released, which is the version that everyone was waiting for.
Is that what you were referring to?

AhmedF 01-04-2002, 08:24 PM If you are going to be running the hosting biz yourself, I think ensim is better.
If you are going to have resellers, plesk might be a better choice.
HTH :)
sabolchi 01-04-2002, 10:07 PM I have had pretty much the same dilemma. I'm trying to decide which panel to go with. I have looked at both demos and they both have too many features disabled to really tell which one will do what I need. I would also love to know what sort of shell the user gets for each one but for obvious reason they are not providing shell accounts to test.
Are these similar to programs like FreeVSD? In other words are they creating individual "virtual" servers for each account?
Which one, if either, would allow me to create accounts for users and allow them to host multiple domains on their account as well as create separate email accounts (with individual logins for each account) for each of those domains? (wow.. that was a long sentence, huh?)
e.g.
User 1:
domain1.com
domain2.com
domain3.com
joeuser@domain1.com
joeuser@domain2.com
joeuser@domain3.com
User 2:
domain4.com
domain5.com
domain6.com
joeuser@domain4.com
joeuser@domain5.com
joeuser@domain6.com
the login for each email will be joeuser but the pass will be different because they are three different users.
Is this even possible? I would even be happy using joeuser@domain*.com as the login for the accounts.. just as long as I don't have to map joeuser@domain.com plus 12 other email accounts to blahfoo on the system.
I apologize in advance if this post doesn't make a whole pile of sense.. I have been at this since some time yesterday.. it's almost time to sleep :)
remarkable 01-04-2002, 10:11 PM Ensim does what you are asking. Each site gets its own mini file systsem complete with its own password files, sendmail config etc...
sabolchi 01-04-2002, 10:46 PM It sounds something like FreeVSD, although I like it much better. Does anyone know what sort of disk space each account takes up for the virtual file system?
For instance, if I wanted to offer 50 meg accounts, what would the actual disk usage be including the file system stuff?
... with its own password files, sendmail config etc ...
I have messed around with sendmail and the virtual hosting aspects of the configuration.. It doesn't seem like it is capable of allowing the logins for something like that?
Is there an additional pop server that is running along with sendmail on ensim that provides this functionality?
BrianF 01-04-2002, 11:04 PM Ensim is so damn expensive, $599 for 250 users!

webfors 01-05-2002, 12:15 AM Plesk is only confusing for the first hour of using it. Once you understand it you'll see that it's very efficient and simple to use.
If money is a factor I think Plesk is the way to go.
